TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a system and method for batch-tuning multiple software components of an intelligent device, which includes tunable components each associated with a tunable configuration file.
Abstract: System and method for batch-tuning multiple software components of an intelligent device. An intelligent device may include tunable components each associated with a tunable configuration file. A batch tuner may be used to generate batch configuration documents from the configuration files. The batch tuner may also be used to generate configuration files from a batch configuration document. In one embodiment, the batch configuration document and the configuration files are markup language documents. In one embodiment, an XML document type definition (DTD) may be used as the method of information exchange. In one embodiment, the batch tuner may use an API (e.g. DOM or SAX API) to access the batch configuration document and configuration files. In one embodiment, each component may be associated with an executable module conforming to the API, and the batch tuner may call the module for the component to generate the configuration file.

TL;DR: Two complementary web services at SDSC and IU that generate batch scripts for different batch queuing schedulers are developed.
Abstract: Computational portal developers often reimplement functionality found in existing portals because there are no common discovery and access mechanisms in place to enable sharing of portal functions. The Web services architecture provides an implementation independent, protocol based mechanism for entities to find, share, and invoke remote services. We developed complementary web services at SDSC and IU that generate batch scripts for different batch queuing schedulers.

TL;DR: In this article, a method and apparatus for customizing the output of a user command in a UNIX operating system or other operating system having a command shell is presented, where a configuration file specifies an output format for each of one or more user commands.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for customizing the output of a user command in a UNIX operating system or other operating system having a command shell. A configuration file specifies an output format for each of one or more user command. In response to receiving a user command, the command shell processes the command to generate an output and formats the output in accordance with the configuration file. The configuration file may specify attributes such as color and font either for a command as a whole or for specified fields of the command. The configuration file may be a default configuration file or may be specified in the command line. The command line may also contain a flag indicating that no configuration file is to used and that default attributes are to be applied.

TL;DR: How the authors teach programming languages now is investigated (and what's wrong with it) by investigating how they are taught now.
Abstract: We begin by investigating how we teach programming languages now (and what's wrong with it). Consider the following two situations: Student X has 200 data files nnn.dat with nnn ranging from 1 to 200. X wants to transform them to plain text (ASCII) with a program dat2asc which should be called thus for each file: dat2asc nnn.dat nnn.asc. X doesn't know how to accomplish that! Two solutions present themselves to X: generate an Excel spreadsheet with the correct commands—200 nearly identical lines—and write them into a batch file, or type the commands 200 times.

TL;DR: In this paper, the managing program of a main processor calculates a difference between arbitrary time desired to operate the application software of a simulation object and the standard time of processors 12-16 as time offset, generates a batch file containing the time offset and distributes it to the processors 12 and 13 of the simulation object, in which the relevant application software is installed.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a test facility system, with which all applications can be operated at arbitrary simulation time without changing a system clock. SOLUTION: The managing program of a main processor 11 calculates a difference between arbitrary time desired to operate the application software of a simulation object and the standard time of processors 12-16 as time offset, generates a batch file containing the time offset and distributes it to the processors 12 and 13 of the simulation object, in which the relevant application software is installed. When starting the relevant application software, each of processors 12 and 13 starts the batch file, obtains the time when the time offset is added to the standard time, and operates the application software synchronously at the preset arbitrary time.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for installing, updating and executing a program on the Internet is provided to install, update and execute a server program on a client system on a web by packaging the server program without an install function.
Abstract: PURPOSE: A method for installing, updating and executing a program on the Internet is provided to install, update and execute a server program on a client system on a web by packaging the server program without an install function. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises steps of a server(120) generating a distribution file by compressing and packing a program to distribute with the registry information and generating an installation file to install the distribution file, installing the installing program to a user system(102) by downloading the installation file from the server, judging that the distribution file exists in the user system by executing the installation program, and downloading a batch file from the server and installing the batch file if the distribution file does not exist in the user system.

TL;DR: In this paper, an electronic or web page album is provided to digitize messages, voices and images transmitted over an online network or an offline media, to store the digital data at a CD or a DVD, and to convert the data into web documents.
Abstract: PURPOSE: An electronic or web page album is provided to digitize messages, voices and images transmitted over an online network or an offline media, to store the digital data at a CD or a DVD, and to convert the digital data into web documents. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises steps of enabling a user to offer a paper album, a photograph, a video or other documents to a service provider over an online network or an offline media, digitizing the offered data by using an image converter, storing the digital file at a CD or a DVD(101), converting the digital file into web documents by using a sound file conversion program or an HTML document conversion program(102), compressing the web documents by a compressing program and installing an automatic electronic album or home page generation program at a CD or a DVD(103), driving the automatic electronic album or home page generation program at a personal computer(104), generating the electronic album(106), enabling a user to select an automatic home page generation program for generating the home page(107), enabling the user to input an ID, a password and an FTP site name, and to call a batch file for decompressing the compressed file(108), enabling the user to copy the decompressed file at a hard disk and to access an FTP server of a web hosting service provider(110), and enabling the user to upload the decompressed file to the FTP server for automatically generating the home page(111), and enabling the user to access the home page based on an HTTP protocol and test it(112).
