TL;DR: In this paper, a wind energy conversion apparatus is described for converting the linear momentum of wind energy into a pair of concentrated, counter-rotating and side-by-side regions of high angular momentum which includes a wing having variable angle of attack positionable forward of the entrance to an elongated duct having a bell mouth.
Abstract: A wind energy conversion apparatus is disclosed herein for converting the linear momentum of wind energy into a pair of concentrated, counter-rotating and side-by-side regions of high angular momentum which includes a wing having variable angle of attack positionable forward of the entrance to an elongated duct having a bell mouth including an upper, inner reflex angular surface leading into a bifurcated duct section terminating in a diffuser augmenter at the aft facing area of the duct and which includes propellors operable to extract energy from the angular momentum in the established regions for driving electric generators or generator therefrom.

TL;DR: In this article, an exhaust manifold comprising a plurality of exhaust pipes and a merging portion applies exhaust gas from each cylinder uniformly to an oxygen sensor in a merging part at low speed.
Abstract: An exhaust manifold comprising a plurality of exhaust pipes and a merging portion applies exhaust gas from each cylinder uniformly to an oxygen sensor in a merging portion at low speed thereby improving the durability of the oxygen sensor. A downstream forward end of each exhaust pipe of the exhaust manifold, when connected to an inlet wall of a merging case having the oxygen sensor mounted on a side thereof, is formed in the shape of a bell mouth for leading the exhaust gas to the oxygen sensor. Each exhaust pipe is fixedly welded to the merging case at a position upstream of the forward end of the bell mouth. An angle formed by lines perpendicular to tangential lines at starting and ending points of a curved portion of the bell mouth at the forward end of the exhaust pipe is set in the range of 45° to 75°. As a result, the bell mouth spreads over the whole interior of the merging case and reduces a flow rate of the exhaust gas, and part of the exhaust gas flows toward the oxygen sensor. The oxygen sensor is thus more evenly exposed to the exhaust gas and has increased durability.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used particle image velocimetry to measure the flow around the vortex in a pump suction intake sump and evaluated the accuracy of CFD calculation predicting vortex cavitation.
Abstract: The flow structure of the vortex occurring in a pump suction intake sump has been investigated and the accuracy of CFD calculation predicting vortex cavitation evaluated experimentally by using particle image velocimetry to measure the flow around the vortex. The test apparatus consisting of the model suction intake and the pressure tank could control the mean inlet velocity, the circulation, and the pressure at the pump intake bell mouth. Vortices of various strengths were generated using this apparatus, and velocity fields around them were measured and compared — with respect to the velocity distribution, the circulation, and the core radius — with the corresponding fields obtained by CFD calculation. The results of those comparisons and the difference between the instantaneous and time-averaged velocity profiles are described and discussed.

TL;DR: In this article, a bell-mouth ring is formed with a casing to be disposed proximately at an outer radial side of a shroud, which has a deflection wall surface for deflecting a flow of air blown out radially outwardly from the centrifugal multi-blade fan and further flowing radially inwardly toward the rotation axis.
Abstract: A bell-mouth ring is formed with a casing to be disposed proximately at an outer radial side of a shroud. The bell-mouth ring has a deflection wall surface for deflecting a flow of air blown out radially outwardly from the centrifugal multi-blade fan and further flowing radially inwardly toward the rotation axis along an inner wall surface of the casing, toward the driving means. In this way, it is possible to suppress air from flowing backward to a suction port through a gap between the shroud and the bell-mouth ring. Accordingly, it is possible to reduce the noise generated by an interference of the air sucked from the suction port with the air flowing backward or by the turbulence of the air flow which is generated in the gap.

TL;DR: In this paper, a top-flow type outdoor machine is provided with air supplying openings on its side-face sides and a heat exchanger 8 on its back side, and a corner guide 18a is provided to the void of each corner section formed of the front-face plate 2, sideface plate, roof plate 6, and bell mouth of the machine.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make compact and silent an outdoor machine for an air conditioner which uses the air blowing-out surface of an axial fan installed to the upper section of an enclosure as its upper surface by providing a corner guide to at least one of the void sections in the corner sections formed of the front-face plate, roof plate, and one side-face plate which is adjacent to the front-face plate SOLUTION: A top-flow type outdoor machine 1 is provided with air supplying openings on its side-face sides and a heat exchanger 8 on its back side The machine 1 is also provided with a compressor 9, an accumulator 10, an axial fan, a bell mouth 12, etc, and a heat-exchanged wind exhausted front the fan 11 is discharged upward after passing through an exhaust pipe 7 and a guard net 16 In the machine 1, a corner guide 18a is provided to the void of each corner section formed of the front-face plate 2, side-face plate, roof plate 6, and bell mouth of the machine 1 Therefore, the outdoor machine 1 can be operated silently, because the heat-exchanged wind sucked from the heat exchanger 8 is prevented front staying in the voids of the corner sections and, at the same time, the efficiency deterioration of the fan 11 caused by uneven flows in the circumferential direction can be suppressed
