TL;DR: In this article, a calorifier has a primary heating coil (2) and a secondary outlet pipe (5) with an inlet at the top of the calorifiers for cold make up.
Abstract: The calorifier has a primary heating coil (2) and a secondary outlet pipe (5) with an inlet at the top of the calorifier. The inlet (6) for cold make up is at the bottom. A vertical pipe (7) through the centre of the calorifier with a bell mouth round the inlet(6), has a restriction in it on which a float (8) rests. At low flows, the float does not rise and the cold water enters the bottom of the calorifier. At large flows, the float is lifted and the cold water is discharged at the top of the calorifier to flow down the outside of the primary coil (2) before being forced back up the inside of the coil.
