TL;DR: In this article, a cover plate is disposed over a bell mouth inlet so that the opening of the inlet can be adjusted to increase the flow resistance of the combustion air.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To ensure a stable ignition, facilitate the handling of various kinds of fuel gas and prevent incomplete combustion by providing means which reduces the magnitude of change in a sum of air flow resistance at supplying section and the air flow resistance at the burning section between the ignition mode and steady burning mode. CONSTITUTION:The combustion air outside a scroll casing 5 is drawn into a space 48 through an intake air passage 66 as its flow rate is throttled at a bend 64 of a cylindrical body 6. At the same time, the fuel gas is supplied to a mixing chamber at a predetermined rate from a gas supply pipe 8. When the combustion air passes through the intake air passage 66, the air passes through a cylindrical section 63 whose end 62 is projecting into a fan 45 by a predetermined amount so as to increase the flow resistance of the combustion air. A cover plate 7 is disposed over a bell mouth inlet 61 so that the opening of the inlet can be adjusted to increase the flow resistance of the combustion air. That is, the magnitude of change in a sum of the air flow resistance at a supplying section 4 and the air flow resistance at a burning section 2 is made small.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a redesign of the Bell Mouth Nozzles for improved reliability by changing the material and thickness of the nozzles and transient thermal analysis of the nozzle.
Abstract: The converters are the focal point of sulfuric acid production, in which contains series of catalytic beds which are used for the oxidation of sulfur dioxide to sulfur trioxide. The commonly used converters consists of four or five catalyst beds filled with vanadium pentoxide catalyst and the beds are having separate inlets and outlets Due to the high temperature produced during oxidation of sulfur dioxide, which is an exothermic reaction, temperature increases to a maximum of 600oC. Bell mouth nozzles are commonly used as the inlets and outlets of catalyst beds since it allows maximum amount of SO3 gas to be drawn into the duct and also provides a thorough distribution of SO2 gas over the catalyst beds. The converters and nozzle are commonly made of carbon steel. It has been identified most of the bell mouth nozzles used in converters of chemical industries undergoes regular failure. This thesis mainly aims at redesigning the bell mouth nozzle for improved reliability. Transient thermal analysis of nozzle was done in ANSYS by changing the material and thickness of nozzle. The effect of various nozzle exit geometries (rectangular, circular and elliptical) on stress, deformation and fatigue life was found out using transient thermal analysis and an optimum geometry of nozzle of suitable material and thickness was found out and proposed.

TL;DR: In this paper, an embodiment of a blower unit for a vehicle, and an air conditioning device comprising of a motor and a fan was presented, which can prevent the backflow of air to the outside of the scroll case through the arrangement of the bell mouth and the scroll cases and the structural shape of the mouth.
Abstract: An embodiment disclosed herein relates to a blower unit for a vehicle, and an air conditioning device comprising same. The blower unit comprises: a scroll case having a suction port formed therein; a fan rotatably disposed inside the scroll case; a motor having a shaft coupled to the fan; and a bell mouth disposed at the suction port, wherein an inner end of the scroll case forming the suction port is disposed radially apart from the fan so as to form a gap, and the bell mouth prevents air flowing due to the rotation of the fan from flowing backward through the gap. Accordingly, the blower unit for a vehicle, and the air conditioning device comprising same can prevent the backflow of air to the outside of the scroll case through the arrangement of the bell mouth and the scroll case and the structural shape of the bell mouth.

TL;DR: In this article, a method of and apparatus for examining the condition of the bottom wall surface of VLCC tanks was proposed, in which a camera was mounted on an articulated arm system and raised to an elevated position.
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for examining the condition of, for example, the bottom wall surface in VLCC tanks in which bell-mouth shaped lower ends (12) of oil outlet pipes (11) are disposed closely adjacent the bottom wall (10) of the vessel, and comprising a camera (14) mounted on an articulated arm system (15) so that it may be introduced through the narrow gap beneath the bell mouth pipe end and raised to an elevated position The camera (14), preferably video, is connected to a remote and/or on-site monitor whereby the tank wall beneath the bell mouth may be inspected preferably with the aid of illumination from an array of lights (17) disposed around the camera lens (16) A pair of graduated scales (18) enable accurate location of the inspected site, and an ultrasonic probe (19) may be introduced also through the narrow gap beneath the bell mouth pipe end to provide a measurement of wall thickness This method and apparatus enable accurate and ready inspection of the wall surface without the need for removal of a lower part of the outlet pipe
