TL;DR: A lifting and positioning apparatus particularly suited for use in the installation of wing-mounted airplane engines includes superposed upper and lower loadbearing support platforms that are connected to one another by means of a jack mechanism operable to raise and lower the upper platform while supported by the lower platform.
Abstract: A lifting and positioning apparatus particularly suited for use in the installation of wing-mounted airplane engines includes superposed upper and lower load-bearing support platforms that are connected to one another by means of a jack mechanism operable to raise and lower the upper platform while supported by the lower platform. The lower platform includes and is movably supportable on fluid cushion bearings. The upper platform supports a plurality of resilient elastomeric elevator bellows that are positioned and adapted to receive and support a heavy object, such as an aircraft engine, while cushioned against application of excessive lifting force. The bellows are independently inflatable and deflatable to effect raising and lowering of selected portions of the aircraft engine and thereby rotate the engine to desired angular orientations. Alternatively, the bellows may be actuated conjointly to effect uniform vertical raising or lowering of the aircraft engine. In operation, the combination of the fluid cushion bearings supporting the lower platform and the elevator bellows on the upper platform enables rotation of the aircraft engine with three degrees of freedom so as to obtain any desired angular orientation for installation. Once the desired angular orientation is obtained, the engine may be raised vertically, first by the jack mechanisms and then by actuating the elevator bellows in unison. The elastomeric bellows and the fluid cushion bearings limit the amount of force that can be applied to the engine during rotation and lifting. The aircraft engine can thus be raised and positioned with a desired angular orientation for mounting without danger of excessive forces being applied to the various attachment members that connect the engine to the airplane wing.

TL;DR: In this article, a fast electromagnetic valve for generation of a pulsed supersonic molecular beam was described, which produces 70 μs pulses with typical intensities in the neighborhood of 1×1022 molecules sr−1/s−1 at frequencies to 35 Hz.
Abstract: We describe a fast electromagnetic valve for generation of a pulsed supersonic molecular beam. The valve produces 70 μs pulses with typical intensities in the neighborhood of 1×1022 molecules sr−1 s−1 at frequencies to 35 Hz. It is triggered by a low voltage–low current pulsed power supply which activates externally‐mounted coils, minimizing problems of heat dissipation and electrical and magnetic interference. It also features a corrosion resistant gas reservoir isolated from the driving mechanism by a stainless steel bellows.

TL;DR: In this article, the expander module of a cryogenic vacuum pump is maintained in a centered position by vibration damping isolators disposed symmetrically around the expand module and which are attached to a support extending down from the vacuum housing.
Abstract: A cryogenic vacuum pump has an expander module suspended from the vacuum chamber of an electron microscope by a metal bellows which dampens the vibrations transmitted to the electron microscope from the expander module. A weight mounted on the expander module and disposed around the bellows counters the lifting force of the atmospheric pressure acting on the expander module and protects the bellows. The expander module is maintained in a centered position by vibration damping isolators disposed symmetrically around the expander module and which are attached to a support extending down from the vacuum housing. In one embodiment the isolators are bar magnets which repel magnetic ring attached to the expander module. In another embodiment the isolators are ladders in which the rungs are wire cables tensioned between a side members attached respectively to the expander module and to the support. The compressor of the cryogenic vacuum pump is a separate unit having a high pressure feed line and a low pressure return line which are connected to the inlet and outlet of the expander module by helical flexible hoses having freely suspended turns which damp the vibrations transmitted by the hoses.

TL;DR: An engine mounting for suspending an engine relative to a vehicle structure is described in this paper. But the engine mounting is not shown in this paper, since it is assumed that the engine will be suspended by an inertia mass and an apparent spring constant of the engine.
Abstract: An engine mounting for suspending an engine relative to a vehicle structure. The engine mounting comprises a first armature for connection to the engine and a second armature for connection to the vehicle structure and a bellows (12) interposed between the first and second armatures to define therewith a closed enclosure. The closed enclosure is filled with pressurized gas. An inertia mass (34) is mounted on the bellows. A mass of the inertia mass and an apparent spring constant of the bellows are selected such that the inertia mass vibrates in inverse phase relastionship with the phase of vibration of the first armature when the engine operates within a vibration insulated domain. The engine mounting comprises partition plates (50, 52) within the bellows to divide the interior of the bellows into two chambers which are communicated with each other through passage means. The passage means are variable in its effective area depending upon the amplitudes of vibrations of the bellows. The effective area of the passage means is decreased during vibrations of the bellows with large amplitudes, while, the effective area of the passage means is decreased during vibrations of the bellows with small amplitudes.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed to improve the damping action of low frequency-large amplitude vibration and the absorption of high frequency-small amplitude vibration by constituting one of the two fluid chambers in the device with a bellows further having a weight member and the other one with an elastic body thin film partially in its wall side.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the damping action of low frequency-large amplitude vibration and the absorption of high frequency-small amplitude vibration in the above described device used for supporting a vehicle engine, by constituting one of the two fluid chambers in the device with a bellows further having a weight member and the other one of the chambers with an elastic body thin film partially in its wall side CONSTITUTION:The vibration of low frequency-large amplitude acted between support parts 1, 4 causes a deformation in an engine support member 8, then fluid flows from the first fluid chamber 9a into the second fluid chamber 9b to damp the vibration Here because the fluid chamber 9b is constituted by a bellows 7 into which a weight member 70 is buried, a large amount of fluid can flow into the chamber to obtain a good effect of damping operation in cooperation with the inertia force of the weight member 70 While the vibration of high frequency-small amplitude is absorbed by both the support member 1 and a thin film part 81, and the fluid is never circulated through a throttling hole 6 In this way, performances for damping the vibration of low frequency-large amplitude and absorbing the vibration of high frequency-small amplitude can be improved
