TL;DR: A valve for use in controlling flow in a subterranean well and using an expandable and contractable fluid sealing bellows is disclosed in this article, where the valve has a valve closure member such as a ball valve head acutated by an increase in control fluid pressure.
Abstract: A valve for use in controlling flow in a subterranean well and using an expandable and contractable fluid sealing bellows is disclosed. The valve has a valve closure member such as a ball valve head acutated by an increase in control fluid pressure. Control pressure causes the bellows to expand or contract and a control rod engaging the bellows can be shifted. The control rod is part of an actuating mechanism for shifting the valve closure member between open and closed positions. The bellows can support the difference between control pressure and well pressure which are respectively present on the exterior and interior of each bellows element.

TL;DR: In this paper, a metal bellows volumometer operating to 250 MPa is described which uses a linear differential transformer in a novel, indirect way to establish the position of the moveable end of the bellows with a precision of about 1 in 60000.
Abstract: A metal bellows volumometer operating to 250 MPa is described which uses a linear differential transformer in a novel, indirect way to establish the position of the moveable end of the bellows with a precision of about 1 in 60000. Calibration with both water and n-heptane has shown that the effective cross-sectional area of the bellows depends on both pressure and the extent of movement of the bellows. Comparison of excess volumes for acetonitrile-water mixtures calculated from the bellows volumometer data with values determined directly by other authors indicates that the device provides densities accurate to +or-0.02%.

TL;DR: In this article, a vertically oriented bellows has a fixed plate at one end and a movable plate at the other end, and the plates are interconnected by an adjustable spring urging the plates toward each other when the bellows are expanded to simulate lung compliance.
Abstract: A vertically oriented bellows has a fixed plate at one end and a movable plate at the other end. As air flows into the bellows, the movable plate pivots relative to the fixed plate and the free end thereof is cooperative with a readout panel to indicate the volume of the bellows. The plates are interconnected by an adjustable spring urging the plates toward each other when the bellows are expanded to simulate lung compliance. Selected tubes having calibrated flow characteristics interconnect the bellows to a lung ventilator to simulate lung resistance. Preferably, a pair of bellows are arranged in mutual association together to simulate a pair of lungs in order to analyze their interdependency.

TL;DR: In this article, an actuating mechanism for a rotatable ball valve unit where several axially extending pistons and cylinder units or bellows elements are mounted in the wall of the outer housing of the ball valve in angularly spaced relationship is described.
Abstract: The disclosure provides an actuating mechanism for a rotatable ball valve unit wherein several axially extending pistons and cylinder units or bellows elements are mounted in the wall of the outer housing of the ball valve in angularly spaced relationship. Two diametrically opposed piston or bellows elements actuate the mechanism for axially shifting and then rotating the ball valve, while the remaining piston or bellows elements effect a displacement of the flow tube to maintain a seal carried by the flow tube in sealing engagement with the ball after its rotational movement has been accomplished. The desired delay of movement of the flow tube is accomplished through either varying the size of the bellows element or the spring constants of the springs opposing the actuating movement of the pistons, bellows elements or a combination of these.

TL;DR: In this paper, a mesh pattern is made from non-extending flexible material and is laid between two contoured layers of elastic sheet in a concertina pattern, with the mesh pattern arranged with the sides of the sheet parallel to the mesh lines.
Abstract: The mesh (13) is made from non extending flexible material and is laid between two contoured layers of elastic sheet (12) in a concertina pattern. This allows the sheet to be stretched without straining the mesh, with the mesh limiting the amount of extension. The sheet is contoured with the bellows folds and is secured between hoop shaped mounting frames. As the vehicle corners the different parts of the bellows can be extended to stretch the bellows folds flat. The mesh pattern is arranged with the sides of the sheet parallel to the mesh lines. The material can be used to link the concertina-connected parts of a hinged-section vehicle e.g. a bus a bus.

TL;DR: In this paper, a rotatable valve actuator is used to move the valve body between an open position and a closed position to open and close the chamber, by rotating the valve stem between the open and closed positions.
Abstract: A valve body includes a chamber for the flow of fluid between an inlet and outlet thereto. A valve member, such as a ball valve member, is positioned in the chamber for rotatable movement between an open position and a closed position to open and close the chamber. A bent valve stem extends between and is connected to the valve member and a rotatable valve actuator. Rotation of the actuator moves the valve member by rotation of the valve stem between the open and closed positions. The valve stem upper end portion is displaced from the valve stem lower end portion to provide the valve stem with a bent configuration. A bellows surrounds the valve stem to provide a hermetic seal around the stem between the valve body and the actuator. The bellows has a bent configuration corresponding to the bent configuration of the valve stem. The other surface of the valve stem is positioned closely adjacent to the inner surface of the bellows to provide the bellows with support substantially along the entire length of the bellows and means are provided to minimize wear between the bellows and stem. In operation, the bellows is internally pressurized and the support provided by the valve stem prevents lateral deflection of the bellows and failure of the bellows due to distortion.
