TL;DR: A carrier uses multiple bellows to form two pressure chambers between the housing and carrier base and retaining ring assembly, and the downward force is transferred from the carrier housing to the carrier base through the bellows as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: A carrier uses multiple bellows to form two pressure chambers between the housing and carrier base and retaining ring assembly. By pressurizing the first chamber, an even load can be applied across the substrate. By pressurizing the second chamber, the retaining ring can pressed against the polishing pad. The bellows allow the carrier base to pivot with respect to the housing, but the downward force is evenly applied to the substrate through the first pressure chamber. Torque is transferred from the carrier housing to the carrier base through the bellows.

TL;DR: In this paper, a cleaning brush is fixed to a cleaner support that is mounted to a rotary element for vertical movement with respect to the substrate, and a closed space defined by a bellows is connected to air piping having a pressure gauge and a regulator.
Abstract: A cleaning brush is fixed to a cleaner support that is mounted to a rotary element for vertical movement with respect thereto. The rotary element is rotatably supported by a forward portion of a support arm that is pivotable about a vertical axis at the rear of the support arm. A closed space defined by a bellows is connected to air piping having a pressure gauge and a regulator. The regulator is operable in response to variations of pressure resulting from engagement of the cleaning brush with a substrate, to control pressure within said bellows whereby the latter expands and contracts to raise or lower the cleaner support relative to the substrate as required to maintain the pressure in a predetermined range. The aforesaid construction responds fast enough to allow the cleaning brush to follow warping of the substrate with facility, and by so doing clean an entire substrate surface uniformly.

TL;DR: In this paper, a pneumatically actuated reciprocating fluid pump and shuttle valve combination is pneumatically shifted by exhausts from a respective pressurized bellows, diaphragm, or piston chamber, as the pump nears the end of its pressure stroke (the exhaust stroke of the pumped fluid).
Abstract: A pneumatically actuated reciprocating fluid pump and shuttle valve combination is pneumatically shifted by pressurized air that exhausts from a respective pressurized bellows, diaphragm, or piston chamber, as the bellows, etc. nears the end of its pressure stroke (the exhaust stroke of the pumped fluid). This pressurized air exhausts from the bellows chamber via a shifting piston and cylinder mechanism within the bellows chamber that opens the bellows chamber at a specified location or point in the pump pumping cycle. The pressurized air exhaust from the bellows chamber acts on the end of the shuttle valve spool element to shift the spool element to its opposite position, which reverses the application of pneumatic pressure and atmospheric exhaust between the two bellows chambers to actuate the reciprocating pump.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for stripping an open ended bellows part from an injection mold has as a first step the injection molding of a Bellows part, and the method has a resilient portion located between a core pin (28) and a first split cavity (30), and a substantially rigid part located between the core pin and a second cavity (44).
Abstract: A method for stripping an open ended bellows part from an injection mold has as a first step the injection molding of a bellows part. The bellows part has a resilient portion located between a core pin (28) and a first split cavity (30) and a substantially rigid portion located between the core pin (28) and a second cavity (44). The substantially rigid portion has a first open end (46) and an external undercut portion (48), and the resilient portion of the bellows part has an inner surface and a second open end (50). The first split cavity (30) opens laterally to permit the resilient portion of the bellows part to be stripped from the core pin (28). Compressed gas passes through the core pin (28) to the inner surface of the resilient portion of the bellows part while both open ends of the bellows part are closed off by the second cavity (44) and the core pin (28). As the cavity and core portions of the mold separate, the second cavity (44) grips the undercut portion (48) of the substantially rigid portion of the bellows part, thereby pulling the resilient portion of the bellows from the core pin (28) while compressed gas maintains the resilient portion expanded. Finally, the second cavity (44) either opens or has a stripper rod (54) to disengage the undercut portion (48) of the substantially rigid portion of the bellows part so that the bellows part may be ejected from the injection mold.

TL;DR: In this paper, an axially-slidable annular valve sleeve and a metal bellows are used to increase the fuel metering area through fuel swirl slots and allowing fuel to flow (with a swirling component) there.
Abstract: An airblast fuel nozzle has an injector head with an extension or support strut. An annular valve spool with a fuel discharge orifice is fixed to the head and a metering assembly surrounds the valve spool. The metering assembly includes an axially-slidable annular valve sleeve and a metal bellows. The bellows, a compression spring, and one or more shims between the valve spool and the injector head provide a preset bias on the valve sleeve such that the valve sleeve initially closes or minimizes the fuel metering area through longitudinally-extending fuel swirl slots spaced about the valve spool at the discharge orifice. When fuel under pressure flows through the injector, the fuel pressure overcomes the preset bias of the sleeve and moves the valve sleeve axially with respect to the valve spool, thereby increasing the fuel metering area through the fuel swirl slots and allowing fuel to flow (with a swirling component) therethrough. The fuel flows through a convoluted path through a fuel circuit surrounding the bellows and valve sleeve, around the bellows, and between the valve sleeve and valve spool to the fuel swirl slots. The convoluted fuel path and fuel metering at the tip of the fuel injector reduces vaporization and coking of the fuel. The bellows, springs and shims provide for easily configuring the metering valve assembly to optimize fuel flow for the particular requirements of the engine.

TL;DR: A computer controlled mechanical lung model has been developed for testing lung function equipment, validation of computer programs and simulation of impaired pulmonary mechanics.
Abstract: A computer controlled mechanical lung model has been developed for testing lung function equipment, validation of computer programs and simulation of impaired pulmonary mechanics. The construction, function and some applications are described. The physical model is constructed from two bellows and a pipe system representing the alveolar lung compartments of both lungs and airways, respectively. The bellows are surrounded by water simulating pleural and interstitial space. Volume changes of the bellows are accomplished via the fluid by a piston. The piston is driven by a servo-controlled electrical motor whose input is generated by a microcomputer. A wide range of breathing patterns can be simulated. The pipe system representing the trachea connects both bellows to the ambient air and is provided with exchangeable parts with known resistance. A compressible element (CE) can be inserted into the pipe system. The fluid-filled space around the CE is connected with the water compartment around the bellows; The CE is made from a stretched Penrose drain. The outlet of the pipe system can be interrupted at the command of an external microcomputer system. An automatic sequence of measurements can be programmed and is executed without the interaction of a technician.

TL;DR: In this paper, a sleeve assembly is designed to force helium boil-off gas to flow in intimate contact with the bellows convolutions, thereby intercepting or removing a portion of the heat that would normally be conducted from the balloon convolutions to the helium vessel.
Abstract: A sleeve assembly (42) for reducing the thermal conduction heat load from the bellows penetration tube (14) to the helium vessel (4) of a superconducting magnet assembly. The sleeve assembly is designed to force helium boil-off gas to flow in intimate contact with the bellows convolutions. The helium boil-off gas thereby intercepts or removes a portion of the heat that would normally be conducted from the bellows convolutions to the helium vessel. The sleeve assembly consists of a circular cylindrical rolled tube (44) made of laminated thermosetting material. The outer diameter of the tube (44) is wrapped with tape in a helical pattern. The diameter of the sleeve and the thickness of the tape wrapping are selected so that the outer circumferential surface of the helically wrapped tape abuts the inner diameter of the bellows (14). The sleeve is fabricated with a relatively small thickness to minimize thermal conduction load. The successive turns of the helical strip of tape are separated by a helical channel which forms a helical flow path for the helium boil-off gas as it flows toward the boil-off gas outlet. As the helium gas spirals around the sleeve assembly, the gas cools the bellows convolutions and the sleeve instrumentation wiring, thereby minimizing thermal conduction losses. Also, the gas will travel inside the bellows convolutions to minimize helium gas conduction inside the convolutions.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an explosion-proof function while downsizing a device by providing a bellows deformed by the expansion of insulating oil, and providing means for detecting the abnormal pressure rise of the insulating oil and preventing the breakage thereby which is composed of the protruding part of a tube vessel and a centrifugal pump. SOLUTION: The volume change by temperature of the insulating oil 5 within a tube vessel 2 is absorbed by a bellows 13 provided on the inside of a metal thin plate formed plastic deforming bellows cover 14 having an air hole 20 which is provided on the inside of one hard side plate 15 having an air hole 19 of the vessel 2. Further, a centrifugal pump 24 having vapor separating function is arranged on the outside of a protruding part formed on the vessel 2 which forms a bubble basin 22. A relief valve 9 for releasing gas from the rotating axial directional end surface is operated by the signal of a pressure sensor signal comparator 12 for generating the signal by the comparison of detected pressure between a tube vessel-side pressure sensor 10 and a pump discharge-side pressure sensor 11. Thus, only the gas is released when the pressure within the vessel 2 is a fixed value or more, and the discharge-side pressure reduces.

TL;DR: In this paper, a process for severing functions from the multiple function collapsible pump chamber (60) during the assembly of the pump device was described, and Dunnage means was also described for reducing the collapsed volume within the pump chamber.
Abstract: A collapsible pump chamber (60) is provided which includes several functional elements of a pump device (20). For example, the collapsible pump chamber (60) may be a bellows (60) which includes a functional element of an outlet valve (80), a functional element of a biasing feature, and a functional element of a spin chamber. Consequently, a functional element of all of the downstream functions are incorporated into the bellows (60). This can significantly reduce costs, due to reduce tooling, and assembly, for example. Since it can be desirable to separate these functions (e.g., to achieve more consistent spray quality), a process is described for severing functions from the multiple function collapsible pump chamber (60) during the assembly of the pump device (20). Dunnage means is also described for reducing the collapsed volume within the collapsible pump chamber.
