17 Aug 1993TL;DR: In this article, a thermoplastic elastomeric material is permanently bonded to a thermoplastic elastic material, and the clamping sections at opposite ends of the bellows are permanently bonded.
Abstract: A bellows made of thermoplastic elastomer material comprises clamping sections at opposite ends of the bellows, where at least one of the clamping sections consists of elastomeric material which is permanently bonded to the thermoplastic elastomer material.

12 Jul 2017TL;DR: This sensing system enables the creation of robust, self-sensing soft robots based on bellows-driven continuum joints and provides accurate motion feedback that would be difficult to achieve robustly with other sensors.
Abstract: In this work we present a novel, inductance-based system to measure and control the motion of bellows-driven continuum joints in soft robots. The sensing system relies on coils of wire wrapped around the minor diameters of each bellows on the joint. As the bellows extend, these coils of wire become more distant, decreasing their mutual inductance. Measuring this change in mutual inductance allows us to measure the motion of the joint. By dividing the sensing of the joint into two sections and measuring the motion of each section independently, we are able to measure the overall deformation of the joint with a piece-wise constant-curvature approximation. This technique allows us to measure lateral displacements that would be otherwise unobservable. When measuring bending, the inductance sensors measured the joint orientation with an RMS error of 1.1 °. The inductance sensors were also successfully used as feedback to control the orientation of the joint. The sensors proposed and tested in this work provided accurate motion feedback that would be difficult to achieve robustly with other sensors. This sensing system enables the creation of robust, self-sensing soft robots based on bellows-driven continuum joints.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method and arrangement in connection with a ventilator, in which fresh gas is supplied to a patient and part of the patient's breathing gas was supplied to the patient with a bellows means, was described.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and arrangement in connection with a ventilator, in which fresh gas is supplied to a patient (15) and part of the patient's breathing gas is supplied to the patient with a bellows means (16) To provide a basic solution suitable for a variety of uses fresh gas is supplied to the patient (15) by means of a gas mixer (1) The fresh gas flow from the gas mixer (1) is occasionally led to drive the bellows means (16)

TL;DR: In this paper, a leak indicating conduit for conveying fluid includes an inner tube and an outer tube, in which the inner tube is separated from the outer tube by a space maintained at a pressure having a predetermined value from the range of values less than the pressure of the conveyed fluid and the ambient pressure, and greater than the intensity of conveyed fluids and ambient pressure.
Abstract: A leak indicating conduit for conveying fluid includes an inner tube and an outer tube, in which the inner tube is separated from the outer tube by a space maintained at a pressure having a predetermined value from the range of values less than the pressure of the conveyed fluid and the ambient pressure, and greater than the pressure of the conveyed fluid and the ambient pressure. A leak indicating device is in continuous communication with the space for indicating a change of pressure in the space from the predetermined value. The indicating device includes a chamber in which an expansible bellows is mounted in communication with the space. The expansible bellows includes a movable plate supporting an indicating element for movement between a concealed first position, thereby indicating no change of pressure from the predetermined value, and a second, visible position, thereby indicating a change of pressure. An electrical switch for operating a separate indicating or control device can be mounted adjacent the expansible bellows, so that it is operated by the bellows as the bellows moves between its first and second positions. Where the leak indicating conduit is used as an expansion joint, the ends of the inner and outer tubes are secured to the pipes by annular attachment welds. Tapered rings are welded over the attachment welds and an aperture is defined in the outer tube, under the tapered rings for detecting leaks in the attachment welds.

TL;DR: In this paper, a crop conditioning system to reduce the drying time of crops is described, which generally provides a framework, a fixed roller mounted on the framework, and a movable roller on one or more bellows.
Abstract: A crop conditioning system to reduce the drying time of crops. The invention generally provides a framework, a fixed roller mounted on the framework, a movable roller mounted on one or more bellows which are mounted on the framework and a source of compressed gas or air for the bellows. The invention also provides a compressible roller sleeve which reduces down time due to jamming or clogging of the rollers with slugs and other debris, which includes a compressible base mat and a plurality of platform surfaces.
