03 Oct 1977TL;DR: In a machine for draw bending pipe, a long pressure die that moves with the pipe during the bend is provided with a retractable rear section as discussed by the authors, which is used for a large degree of bend but when a bend of lesser degree is made near the end of the pipe, interference between the pipe grasping chuck and the long pressure dies is avoided by retracting the rear pressure die section.
Abstract: In a machine for draw bending pipe, a long pressure die that moves with the pipe during the bend is provided with a retractable rear section. Both sections are used for a large degree of bend but when a bend of lesser degree is made near the end of the pipe, interference between the pipe grasping chuck and the long pressure die is avoided by retracting the rear pressure die section.

09 Apr 1997TL;DR: In this paper, a bend pipe is inserted in a cavity, and when the pipe is subjected to bulge forming, the bend pipe deforms by supplying a pressure medium to an interior of the pipe so that an inside and/or outside of the bent portion is bulged along a bulging region formed at a portion of the cavity.
Abstract: According to a hydraulic bulge forming method, a bend pipe (1) is inserted in a cavity (20), and when the bend pipe is subjected to bulge forming, the bend pipe is deformed by supplying a pressure medium to an interior of the bend pipe so that an inside and/or outside of the bent portion is bulged along a bulging region (4) formed at a portion of the cavity (20) corresponding to the inside and/or outside of the bent portion of the bend pipe.A reduction in wall thickness of the outside portion of the bent portion is suppressed by a movable support die, so that breaking can be prevented.

17 Jun 2003TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a new strategy to increase or decrease bend loss in single-mode buried channel waveguides in a predictable manner, based on the presence in the cladding of additional layers with different refractive indices on either or both sides of the core in the plane of the bend.
Abstract: The authors propose a new strategy to increase or decrease bend loss in single-mode buried channel waveguides in a predictable manner. This strategy is based on the presence in the cladding of additional layers with different refractive indices on either or both sides of the core in the plane of the bend. It is demonstrated that this approach can lead to significant bend loss reduction when compared to other strategies, and, conversely, can be used to enhance bend loss for a fixed bend radius for application to devices such as optical attenuators.
