TL;DR: In this article, a system and method for monitoring bend radius and torque force exerted on a drill string is presented, where a sensor system is supported within a pipe section of the drill string and has a light source supported within the pipe section.
Abstract: A system and method for monitoring bend radius and torque force exerted on a drill string. A sensor system is supported within a pipe section of the drill string and has a light source supported within the pipe section to emit a light beam within the pipe section. An optical sensing device is supported within the pipe section and spaced apart from the light source. The optical sensing device transmits a detection signal indicative of the position of the light beam on a surface of the optical sensing device to a processor that determines the bend radius and torque force exerted on the pipe section.

TL;DR: In this article, the design of a bent antenna-coil for a 13.56 MHz RFID transponder is presented, where the tag is integrated into a plastic ballpoint pen, optimally making use of the marginal volume inside the cylindrical geometry of the casing.
Abstract: In this work, the design of a bent antenna-coil for a 13.56 MHz RFID transponder is presented. The tag is integrated into a plastic ballpoint pen, optimally making use of the marginal volume inside the cylindrical geometry of the casing. The coil is designed with a 50% higher inductance in its planar state, so that the required inductance of nearly 6 muH to ensure resonance is obtained when the bent tag is inside the pen. Quasi-static and full-wave methods for the electromagnetic simulation of the coil are compared and an analysis of the influence of the bend radius on the inductance of the coil is conducted. Furthermore, the designed tag was manufactured using two technologies comprising copper windings on a polyimide substrate and conductive polymer paste on a polyester foil for experimental verification. With a mid-range RFID reader configuration, read-ranges of up to 23 cm and 12 cm, respectively, were obtained with the bent tag inside the pen.

TL;DR: In this article, a process for bending on a press a metal sheet through a desired angle and an inner bend radius less than the thickness of the sheet without causing damages such as cracking in a bend is described.
Abstract: A process for bending on a press a metal sheet through a desired angle and an inner bend radius less than the thickness of the sheet, without causing damages such as cracking in a bend. According to this process, a metal sheet is first bent through an angle approximating a desired angle, with an inner bend radius being greater than the thickness of the metal sheet, and then the metal sheet thus bent is further bent through a desired angle, with the inner bend radius being less than the thickness of the metal sheet, and with the stretching of a material of the metal sheet on the outer side of the bend being suppressed.

TL;DR: In this paper, a bent hybrid leakage channel fiber (LCF) was proposed to achieve single-mode operation with low bending loss (BL) to overcome the limitation of mode area at the commercial packaging radius of 7.5 cm.
Abstract: In this work, we propose bent hybrid leakage channel fiber (LCF) designs to achieve effectively single-mode operation with low bending loss (BL) to overcome the limitation of mode area at the commercial packaging radius of 7.5 cm for doped fiber laser applications. Large-mode-area (LMA) designs are realized by introducing high-index rings around the low-index fluorine-doped silica rods to compensate the bend induced distortion. A full-vectorial finite-element method is used to obtain the bending characteristics of the proposed LMA hybrid LCF designs. The optimized hybrid LCF exhibits an effective mode area of 1406 μm 2 for a core diameter of ~40 μm, good beam quality factor M2 of 1.19 and differential BL ratio of 130 between higher-order mode (LP11-like) and the fundamental mode (LP01-like) at the bending radius of 7.5 cm.

TL;DR: In this article, a high-voltage connecting cable with an ultra-soft aluminum conductor is described, which is used in an electric car to provide a flame-retardant effect.
Abstract: The invention belongs to the technical field of cables, and relates to a high-voltage connecting cable provided with an ultra-soft aluminum conductor and used in an electric automobile. The high-voltage connecting cable comprises the conductor, a wrapping belt wrapping the conductor, and an insulation layer wrapping the wrapping belt. The high-voltage connecting cable is characterized in that the conductor is formed by twisting fifth-type soft aluminum wires which are processed through annealing, the diameter of the fifth-type soft aluminum wires ranges from 0.10 mm to 0.45 mm, the cross sectional area of the conductor ranges from 1.5 mm to 120 mm , and the insulation layer is made of 120-DEG C environmentally-friendly inflaming retarding thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) or 125-DEG C environmentally-friendly inflaming retarding irradiation cross-linked polyolefin; the rated operational voltage of the cable is 1500 volts, the long-time working temperature of the cable is lower than or equal to 125 DEG C, the environment temperature is higher than or equal to -40 DEG C when the cable is laid, the continuous working time of the cable under the temperature of 175 DEG C is longer than or equal to 6 hours, and the minimum bend radius is five times of the external diameter of the cable. The high-voltage connecting cable has the main advantages that the cable is softer, more bendable, lighter, lower in cost, more resistant to high voltage, capable of allowing large current to pass, better in flame-retardant effect, and safer in use.
