TL;DR: Experimental results demonstrate that the present silicon PIC enables the 10-channel on-chip transmission with a low inter-mode crosstalk of approximately −20 dB over a broad bandwidth of 1520–1610 nm even when the bending radius of the S-bend is as small as 40 µm.
Abstract: A multimode silicon photonic integrated circuit (PIC) comprising a pair of on-chip mode (de)multiplexers with 10-mode channels and a multimode bus waveguide with sharp bends is demonstrated to enable multi-channel on-chip transmissions. The core width of the multimode bus waveguide is chosen such that it can support 10 guided modes, of which there are four transverse-magnetic polarization modes and six transverse-electric polarization modes. This multimode bus waveguide comprises sharp bends based on modified Euler curves. Experimental results demonstrate that the present silicon PIC enables the 10-channel on-chip transmission with a low inter-mode crosstalk of approximately −20 dB over a broad bandwidth of 1520–1610 nm even when the bending radius of the S-bend is as small as 40 µm. Compared with a silicon PIC using a conventional arc-bend with the same bending radius, our proposed PIC demonstrates a significant improvement.

TL;DR: In this article, an angular plug connection at at least one of its two cable ends is proposed to produce a bend with a bending radius r α, where 0.2 r k,min ≦r α ≦ 0.9 rk,min, which alters the line impedance Z k by a maximum of 1 ohm.
Abstract: The invention relates to an HF coaxial cable that comprises a cable inner conductor and a cable outer conductor, as well as an angular plug connection at at least one of its two cable ends. A method is also described for producing same. The invention is characterised in that said HF coaxial cable is designed as a conventional corrugated sheath cable comprising a cable outer conductor, in the form of a metal corrugated tube, to which a line impedance Z k and a minimum bending radius r k,min are allocated; in that at the at least one cable end, said cable inner conductor is joined to an inner conductor of a straight plug connector and the cable outer conductor is joined to an outer conductor of the straight plug connector; in that said corrugated sheath cable has, directly or indirectly following the straight plug connector, a bend that has a bending radius r α , where 0.2 r k,min ≦r α ≦0.9 r k,min , which alters the line impedance Z k by a maximum of 1 ohm; and in that the bend with the bending radius r α is produced by cold forming said corrugated sheath cable with the introduction of bending forces and tensile forces directed along said corrugated sheath cable.

10 Oct 2012TL;DR: In this article, a semi-rigid electronic device is disclosed that includes a flexible panel and a housing, and the minimum bending device radius of the device along the dimension L may be L/pi when held at an edge.
Abstract: A semi-rigid electronic device is disclosed that includes a flexible panel and a housing. The housing may have a physical dimension L, such as length, height, or a diagonal. The minimum bending device radius of the device along the dimension L may be L/pi when held at an edge. The bending radius increases the more rigid the device. The housing, electronic components, and display may each contribute to the flexibility of the overall device. The housing and/or the flexible panel may also include one or more ribs to constrain movement of the semi-rigid device.

TL;DR: In this article, a composite optical waveguide consisting of a silica-based core and a Si-based one was constructed and the second waveguide was joined to the first waveguide.
Abstract: A composite optical waveguide 1 includes a first optical waveguide 9 comprising a silica-based core and a second optical waveguide 11 comprising an Si-based core. The second optical waveguide 11 is joined to the first optical waveguide 9 . The length of the first optical waveguide 9 corresponds to a permissible propagation loss of the second optical waveguide 11 . The second optical waveguide 11 includes a sharply curved portion 13 having a radius smaller than the minimum bend radius of the first optical waveguide 9.

TL;DR: In this article, the results of experimental research on the flow resistances of Bingham-fluid ice slurry in bends and elbows were presented, where the influence of friction resistances as well the of the flow geometry on the total local resistance coefficients were taken into account.
Abstract: The present paper covers the flow of ice slurry made of a 10.6% ethanol solution through small-radius bends and elbow pipes. The paper presents the results of experimental research on the flow resistances of Bingham-fluid ice slurry in bends and elbows. The research, performed for three pipe diameters and a relative bend radius of 1≤D/di≤2, has made it possible to take into consideration the influence of friction resistances as well the of the flow geometry on the total local resistance coefficients. The study attempts to make the local resistance coefficient dependent on the Dean number defined for a generalized Reynolds number according to Metzner-Reade
