TL;DR: Manganese oxides, which are easily prepared, simple to use and capable of being recycled, have been employed as catalyst in the selective oxidation of toluene to benzoic acid for the first time.
Abstract: Manganese oxides, which are easily prepared, simple to use and capable of being recycled, have been employed as catalyst in the selective oxidation of toluene to benzoic acid for the first time. Molecular oxygen was used as oxidant under additive- and solvent-free conditions. As a result, 39% conversion of toluene and 93% selectivity of benzoic acid were achieved.

TL;DR: A new method for preparing a solid inclusion compound was developed in this article, where a physical mixture of benzoic acid and α-or β-cyclodextrin (CD) or the ground mixture was sealed in a container after adsorbing a definite amount of water vapor, then heated to a temperature ranging from 43 to 142 °C.
Abstract: A new method for preparing a solid inclusion compound was developed. A physical mixture of benzoic acid and α-or β-cyclodextrin (CD) or the ground mixture was sealed in a container after adsorbing a definite amount of water vapor, then heated to a temperature ranging from 43 to 142 °C. The results of powder X-ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy showed that the crystalline inclusion compound was produced when the container was heated at over 70°C. The combining molar ratio of benzoic acid to α-CD in the inclusion compound prepared by this method was higher than that obtained by the coprecipitation method. Physical mixtures of benzoic acid and α-or β-CD were also sealed in a stainless steel vessel under nitrogen gas pressure, then heated to 127 °C. The pressurized samples had a higher combination ratio than the non-pressurized samples.

TL;DR: Low concentrations of benzoic acid stimulated fermentation rates in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and changes in the levels of glycolytic intermediates suggested that fermentation was inhibited as a result of high ATP usage rather than of lowered intracellular pH.
Abstract: Low concentrations of benzoic acid stimulated fermentation rates in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. At concentrations near the maximum permitting growth, there was inhibition of fermentation, lowered ATP and intracellular pH, and relatively greater accumulation of benzoate. Changes in the levels of glycolytic intermediates suggested that fermentation was inhibited as a result of high ATP usage rather than of lowered intracellular pH. Specific inhibition of phosphofructokinase or of several other glycolytic enzymes was not observed.

TL;DR: The in-vitro antiproliferative activity against human colorectal carcinoma and human hepatocellular carcinoma cells lines demonstrated that compound 1 possesses high in vitroliferatives activity with IC50 values of 0.0284 ± 0.0001 μM and 0.287 µm for HCT116 and HEPG2 cells, respectively.
