TL;DR: The first synthesis of 4,10-dihydro-3-hydroxy-3,methyl-1H,3H-pyrano[4,3-b][1]benzopyran-10-one, the basic skeleton in fulvic acid, was achieved by sequential cyclization, which involved hydrogenation of the boron complex of the dione as mentioned in this paper.

TL;DR: The use of benzopyran dyes for dyeing or printing synthetic materials was discussed in this article, with the use of iminocoumarins as their intermediates.
Abstract: Disclosed are benzopyran dyes of formula (I), wherein n is 1 or 2; X1 is oxygen or imino; X2 is cyano or carbamoyl; R?1 and R2? are C?1?-C13 alkyl, where the sum of the carbon atoms in R?1 and R2? must be at least 10, and R3 is hydrogen, C?1?-C6-alkyl, C1-C6 alkoxy, halogen, cyano, nitro, carbamoyl, C1-C4 mono- or dialkyl carbamoyl, sulfamoyl or C1-C4 mono- or dialkyl sulfamoyl. Disclosed also are iminocoumarins as their intermediates and the use of the new dyes for dyeing or printing synthetic materials.
