Abstract: This paper describes a knowledge unit and the use of a software tool, DesignMentor, for teaching a very challenging topic in computer graphics and visualization, namely: curve and surface interpolation and approximation. Topics include global and local interpolation, global approximation, and curve network interpolation. For the past six years, a junior-level course has successfully used this approach.

04 Dec 2001TL;DR: In this article, a low-order polyphase interpolation filter is proposed to facilitate sample rate conversion from a first rate to a second rate, which can be greater or less than the sample rate of the input signal.
Abstract: A low-order polyphase interpolation filter, such as for decoding video and image signals, employs interpolation to facilitate sample rate conversion from a first rate to a second rate, which can be greater or less than the sample rate of the input signal. The interpolation applies interpolation coefficients, which are non-linear with respect to an associated positioning vector, to a set of input samples to provide desired scaling and/or conversion of the input sample into the desired output sample.

13 Oct 2005TL;DR: A novel image interpolation method based on gradient analysis is presented, which gives an attention to the precision and complexity of interpolation procedure.
Abstract: Image interpolation has been widely used and studied in the fields of image processing. Considering the different complexities along the different directions, a novel image interpolation method based on gradient analysis is presented in this article. First, for each point that need to be interpolated, the gradient values along the horizontal and vertical directions are estimated respectively. Second, different interpolation methods are carried out along these two directions according to the gradient values, that is a higher order interpolation method is applied if the gradient value is greater than certain threshold; otherwise, a lower order interpolation method is used. This method gives an attention to the precision and complexity of interpolation procedure. Experimental results show that the proposed method is feasible and promising
