TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that when the starting point of the branch is near a bifurcation, the radius of convergence of the power series is exactly the distance from the start point to the bifurlocal point.
Abstract: The asymptotic-numerical method (ANM) is a path following technique which is based on high order power series expansions. In this paper, we analyse its behaviour when it is applied to the continuation of a branch with bifurcation points. We show that when the starting point of the continuation is near a bifurcation, the radius of convergence of the power series is exactly the distance from the starting point to the bifurcation. This leads to an accumulation of small steps around the bifurcation point. This phenomenon is related to the presence of inevitable imperfections in the FE models. We also explain that, depending on the maximal tolerated residual error (out-of-balance error), the ANM continuation may continue to follow the fundamental path or it may turn onto the bifurcated path without applying any branch switching technique.

TL;DR: In this paper, the existence and uniqueness of crossing limit cycles for pseudo-Hopf bifurcation was proved under generic conditions, and a crossing limit cycle for this family was presented.
Abstract: The creation or destruction of a crossing limit cycle when a sliding segment changes its stability, is known as pseudo-Hopf bifurcation. In this paper, under generic conditions, we find an unfolding for such bifurcation, and we prove the existence and uniqueness of a crossing limit cycle for this family.

TL;DR: In this article, the local codimension one and two bifurcations which occur in a family of three-dimensional vector fields depending on three parameters were studied from a numerical point of view.
Abstract: In this paper we study the local codimension one and two bifurcations which occur in a family of three-dimensional vector fields depending on three parameters. An equivalent family, depending on five parameters, was recently proposed as a new chaotic system with a Lorenz-like butterfly shaped attractor and was studied mainly from a numerical point of view, for particular values of the parameters, for which computational evidences of the chaotic attractor was shown. In order to contribute to the understand of this new system we present an analytical study and the bifurcation diagrams of an equivalent three parameter system, showing the qualitative changes in the dynamics of its solutions, for different values of the parameters.

TL;DR: Numerical minimization of the droplet free energy shows that line tension contrasts can stabilize nonaxisymmetric droplet shapes, thus modifying the bifurcation diagram.
Abstract: We study the morphologies of single liquid droplets wetting a substrate in the presence of the line tension of the three-phase contact line. On a homogeneous substrate, the line tension leads to a discontinuous unbinding of the droplet if its volume is decreased below a critical value. For a droplet wetting a structured surface with a circular domain, a line tension contrast gives rise to discontinuous depinning transitions of the contact line from the domain boundary as the droplet volume is varied. We calculate the corresponding free energy bifurcation diagram analytically for axisymmetric droplet shapes. Numerical minimization of the droplet free energy shows that line tension contrasts can stabilize nonaxisymmetric droplet shapes, thus modifying the bifurcation diagram. These latter shapes should be accessible to experiments and can be used to reveal the presence of a line tension contrast.
