15 Feb 2002TL;DR: In this paper, the first and second piezoelectric layers of a transducer are placed over an array of ink channels and two areas defined by positive and negative electrodes are polarized symmetrically in a direction perpendicular to the laminating direction.
Abstract: In a piezoelectric transducer, first piezoelectric ceramic layers are laminated on second piezoelectric ceramic layers, which are placed over an array of ink channels. In the first piezoelectric ceramic layers, two areas defined, corresponding to each ink channel, by a column of positive electrodes and two columns of negative electrodes are polarized symmetrically in a direction perpendicular to the laminating direction. In the second piezoelectric ceramic layers, each area defined by positive and negative electrodes are polarized parallel to the laminating direction. Upon the application of a voltage between the positive and negative electrodes in the first and second piezoelectric layers, corresponding to a selected ink channel, the two polarized areas in the first piezoelectric ceramic layers extend in the ink channel array direction while each polarized area in the second piezoelectric ceramic layers contracts in the ink channel array direction. Such a bimorph deformation increases the volume of the ink channel.

01 Jan 1994TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of geometrical changes in the endcap of a multilayer moonie actuator has been investigated for a cyclic electric field of 1 kV/mm with triangular wave form at 100 Hz, up to 107 cycles.
Abstract: The moonie actuator is a versatile performer that fills the gap between the multilayer actuator and the bimorph actuator. This paper describes the effect of geometrical changes in the endcap on the moonie's actuator characteristics. The reliability of multilayer moonie actuators were tested for long term usage and a wide range of temperatures. The effect of cavity dimensions, which are the key parameters for transformation and amplification of lateral motion into axial motion, on the characteristics of the moonie actuator were investigated. Fatigue tests of multilayer moonie actuator were performed under a cyclic electric field of 1 kV/mm with triangular wave form at 100 Hz, up to 107 cycles, at room temperature. Deviations less than p0.1% from the original displacement value were observed. Temperature dependence experiments were performed in the range of -20 to +70dC. Maximum p15% nonpermanent deviations in the displacement from the room temperature value were observed

TL;DR: In this paper, a novel RF microelectromechanical system tunable capacitor having a piezoelectric bimorph actuator has been developed using a complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor compatible surface micromachining process.
Abstract: Tunable capacitors with high tuning range and high Q-factors are indispensable for realizing reconfigurable radio-frequency (RF) circuits for multiband/multimode next-generation mobile wireless communication terminals. A novel RF microelectromechanical systems tunable capacitor having a piezoelectric bimorph actuator has been developed using a complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor compatible surface micromachining process. Folded beam piezoelectric actuators were introduced to cancel curling of the actuator beam due to residual stress. The continuous wide tuning ratio of three was realized at an operation voltage of less than 3 V for the first time

TL;DR: Bimorph mirrors for laser beam correction and formation were developed and investigated in this article, where different types of substrates and active piezoceramics materials were considered to fabricate temperature independent shape of the mirror surface and to maximize the sensitivity of the reflected light.
Abstract: Bimorph mirrors for laser beam correction and formation were developed and investigated. Different types of substrates and active piezoceramics materials were considered to fabricate temperature independent shape of the mirror surface and to maximize the sensitivity of the mirror. High reflectivity coatings for different wavelengths were studied.

04 Oct 1993TL;DR: In this paper, a bimorph element is formed by bonding first and second piezoelectric bodies together with an elastic shim interposed between, and a space between the recess and the end portion of the bimomorph element is filled by an elastic support member.
Abstract: A bimorph element is formed by bonding first and second piezoelectric bodies together with an elastic shim interposed between. The bimorph element is firmly held by a base frame which has a recess and a groove at the bottom of the recess. The elastic shim 103 has an extending portion which is firmly inserted in the groove and its end portion is inserted in the recess of the base frame. A space between the recess and the end portion of the bimorph element is filled by an elastic support member.
