TL;DR: The last point may be, I think, special pleading as discussed by the authors, since behavioural science, like any science, is international; just as social psychiatry is of necessity cross-cultural in interest.
Abstract: or else poor proof-reading, should be ironed out in what we hope will be successively improved editions of this reference work. As to the word &dquo;American&dquo; in the title, Chapters 1 and 2 deal with the history of psychiatry in America, although Arieti implies an eclectic receptivity &dquo;to all possible approaches which is characteristic of psychiatry in the United States&dquo;. The last point may be, I think, special pleading. Behavioural science, like any science, is international; just as social psychiatry is of necessity crosscultural in interest.
