TL;DR: The use of cheap agricultural and food processing byproducts such as oil cakes, as feedstock is highly favored so as to improve the commercial feasibility of bioprocess technology.
Abstract: The very sustainability of the growing bioprocess industry depends on the progressive reduction of expensive nutrient inputs into fermentation media. The use of cheap agricultural and food-processing by-products such as oil cakes, as feedstock is highly favored so as to improve the commercial feasibility of bioprocess technology. Due to stringent nutritional requirements of these edible oil cakes as animal feed, there is considerable interest in using them as substrates in the fermentation industry. This chapter will provide an impetus to further research in this area enabling better utilization of edible oil cakes as sources of protein and carbohydrates for economic viability of the bioprocess industry.

TL;DR: A novel bioprocess to help prevent cancer through augmenting lactation, especially driven by adequate physical activity is described, based on the philosophy that increased exercise improves appetite and nutrient turnover in favour of milk biosynthesis in mammary glands, thereby decreasing the likelihood of fat deposition.
Abstract: The objective of this article was to describe a novel bioprocess to help prevent cancer through augmenting lactation, especially driven by adequate physical activity. The methodology of this biotechnique is based on the philosophy that increased exercise improves appetite and nutrient turnover in favour of milk biosynthesis in mammary glands, thereby decreasing the likelihood of fat deposition where milk must be produced and fat depots must not be developed. Mammary adiposity and reduced lactation capacity predispose breast cells to oncogenesis.

TL;DR: In this article, genomic, genetic, metabolic, imaging and modelling tools have been established that will provide fundamental new insights into filamentous fungal growth and how it is balanced with product formation.
Abstract: Filamentous fungal cell factories are efficient producers of platform chemicals, proteins, enzymes and natural products. Stirred-tank bioreactors up to a scale of several hundred m³ are commonly used for their cultivation. Fungal hyphae self-assemble into various cellular macromorphologies ranging from dispersed mycelia, loose clumps, to compact pellets. Development of these macromorphologies is so far unpredictable but strongly impacts productivities of fungal bioprocesses. Depending on the strain and the desired product, the morphological forms vary, but no strain- or product-related correlations currently exist to improve process understanding of fungal production systems. However, novel genomic, genetic, metabolic, imaging and modelling tools have recently been established that will provide fundamental new insights into filamentous fungal growth and how it is balanced with product formation. In this primer, these tools will be highlighted and their revolutionary impact on rational morphology engineering and bioprocess control will be discussed.
