Abstract: At the present invention, a pitch controller (111), uninterruptible power supply (112), and rotational speed detector (114) are disposed in the rotor (1) in a wind turbine. When a slip ring failure or wire breakage occurs, the pitch controller (111) internally creates a pitch angle command so as to control the pitch angle. Accordingly, even if the slip ring (7) between the rotor (1) and nacelle (2) fails in the wind turbine, pitch angle control is performed reliably.

Abstract: A variable pitch blade and blade mount which is suitable for propellers, fans and the like and which has improved impact resistance. The invention is particularly directed to composite fan blades and blade mounting arrangements wherein the blades are permitted to pivot relative to a turbine hub about an axis generally parallel to the centerline of the engine upon impact of a large foreign object, such as a bird. By thus providing for the pivoting of the blades upon impact, centrifugal force recovery becomes the principal energy absorbing mechanism and a blade having improved impact strength is obtained.

Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for an emergency feathering control of a wind turbine during emergency feathering of the turbine blades that is independent of a turbine control and pitch control unit. A variable pitch rate controller generates commands to drive an AC servo motor for blade feathering. A first pitch rate is obtained with a back-up storage unit, such as a super capacitor. The commands from the controller vary the pitch rate of the blades during feathering in an emergency to a second pitch rate that is different from the first pitch rate.
