TL;DR: In this paper, various cross-wind turbines that are capable of providing high efficiencies over a wide range of wind velocities are described, where gaps are provided between the inside edge of the rotor blade and a stationary shaft which vents wind collected by the rotor blades during certain portions of the rotation cycle.
Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments of cross-wind turbines that are capable of providing high efficiencies over a wide range of wind velocities. An airfoil stator causes wind to accelerate along its surface and creates a low pressure area on the leading face of the rotor blade during the power stroke. A blocking stator blocks wind from impeding the movement of the rotor blades during the return cycle and directs wind onto the trailing face of the rotor blades during the power cycle. A large pressure differential is created between the leading face of the rotor blade and the trailing face of the rotor blade during the power cycle which creates a large amount of force that rotates the rotor blade about the central shaft. In some embodiments, gaps are provided between the inside edge of the rotor blade and a stationary shaft which vents wind collected by the rotor blade during certain portions of the rotation cycle. The vented wind increases the pressure on the trailing face of the rotor blades during the return cycle to further assist in the efficiency of this system.

TL;DR: A pitch regulation strategy based on LQG (Linear Quadratic Gaussian) to regulate turbine at its rated power and to reject the effect of disturbance acting on its rotor blades by wind is presented in this article.
Abstract: Variable speed wind turbine is a complex and nonlinear system, a sophisticated control is required to meet the challenges posed by these systems. This paper is presenting a pitch regulation strategy based on LQG (Linear Quadratic Gaussian) to regulate turbine at its rated power and to reject the effect of disturbance acting on its rotor blades by wind. CART2 (Control Advanced Research Turbine) linear model is produced/generated by FAST (Fatigue, Aerodynamics, Structures and Turbulence) code to test its simulation on MATLAB/Simulink and various results are compared. The designed controller provide better disturbance rejection performance as compared to PID controller.

TL;DR: In this article, an actuator between a rotatable part (9) of the swash plate and a rotor-blade mount (2) of each rotor blade is proposed for the safe actuation of individual rotor blades in helicopter noise reduction, and increased efficiency at a modest constructional effort.
Abstract: In a helicopter having three or more rotor blades, and with mechanical actuation of the rotor blades by a swash plate and a superimposed electrohydraulic active control system, in addition to three regulating units (18) is an actuator (4) between a rotatable part (9) of the swash plate and a rotorblade mount (2) of each rotor blade. This arrangement allows for the safe actuation of individual blades in helicopter noise reduction, and increased efficiency at a modest constructional effort.

TL;DR: A fan comprises a hub, fan blades, and inserts as discussed by the authors, and each insert is configured to position and maintain the chord line of each corresponding fan blade at an oblique angle relative to the horizontal plane of the hub.
Abstract: A fan comprises a hub, fan blades, and inserts. The hub comprises outwardly extending mounting tabs that lie along a common horizontal plane. The fan blades are hollow, such that each mounting tab is inserted in the hollow interior of a corresponding fan blade. Each insert is positioned in the hollow interior of each fan blade, between each mounting tab of the hub and the interior surface of the corresponding fan blade. Each insert is configured to position and maintain the chord line of each corresponding fan blade at an oblique angle relative to the horizontal plane of the hub. A kit may include several insert sets to choose from to provide adjustable angle of attack. A fan control system includes a dimmer switch and a control module, which allows the dimmer switch to be used to infinitely adjust the speed of a fan motor within a range.

TL;DR: In this paper, an improved integral marine propulsion unit is disclosed that can generate a thrust vector in any of three degrees of motion, utilizing both collective and cyclic propeller blade pitch angle variation to generate these thrust.
Abstract: An improved integral marine propulsion unit is disclosed that can generate a thrust vector in any of three degrees of motion. The unit utilizes both collective and cyclic propeller blade pitch angle variation to generate these thrust. This unit obviates the need for control surfaces and rudders for motion control of a marine vessel. Additionally, this unit provides flexibility in external propulsor arrangements on a marine hull. The unit integrates the swash plate mechanism and actuators within the central bore of a ring type prime mover.
