Abstract: The applicability of the Folin-Lowry protein assay to the determination of protein contamination of DNA was investigated with respect to its sensitivity and to the color contribution of possible degradative contaminants. Quantities of protamine and histone on the order of 10 to 15 g may be detected by this method, which may be applied to preparations of DNA from which phenol, bases, nucleosides, and nucleotides have been removed.
