Abstract: As researchers continue to explore wireless sensors for use in structural monitoring systems, validation of field performance must be done using actual civil structures. In this study, a network of low-cost wireless sensors was installed in the Geumdang Bridge, Korea to monitor the bridge response to truck loading. Such installations allow researchers to quantify the accuracy and robustness of wireless monitoring systems within the complex environment encountered in the field. In total, 14 wireless sensors were installed in the concrete box girder span of the Geumdang Bridge to record acceleration responses to forced vibrations introduced by a calibrated truck. In order to enhance the resolution of the capacitive accelerometers interfaced to the wireless sensors, a signal conditioning circuit that amplifies and filters low-level accelerometer outputs is proposed. The performance of the complete wireless monitoring system is compared to a commercial tethered monitoring system that was installed in parallel. The performance of the wireless monitoring system is shown to be comparable to that of the tethered counterpart. Computational resources (e.g. microcontrollers) coupled with each wireless sensor allow the sensor to estimate modal parameters of the bridge such as modal frequencies and operational displacement shapes. This form of distributed processing of measurement data by a network of wireless sensors represents a new data management paradigm associated with wireless structural monitoring. TL;DR: This paper proposes a memristor bridge circuit consisting of four identical memristors that is able to perform zero, negative, and positive synaptic weightings together with three additional transistors to perform synaptic operation for neural cells.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a memristor bridge circuit consisting of four identical memristors that is able to perform zero, negative, and positive synaptic weightings. Together with three additional transistors, the memristor bridge weighting circuit is able to perform synaptic operation for neural cells. It is compact as both weighting and weight programming are performed in a memristor bridge synapse. It is power efficient, since the operation is based on pulsed input signals. Its input terminals are utilized commonly for applying both weight programming and weight processing signals via time sharing. In this paper, features of the memristor bridge synapses are investigated using the TiO memristor model via simulations.

TL;DR: In this paper, an in-band management process in software is described which receives and executes network management commands received as data packets from the LANs coupled to the integrated hub/bridge.
Abstract: A hub circuit with an integrated bridge circuit carried out in software including a switch for bypassing the bridge process such that the two bridged networks effectively become one network. An in-band management process in software is disclosed which receives and executes network management commands received as data packets from the LANs coupled to the integrated hub/bridge. Also disclosed is hardware and software to implement an isolate mode where data packets which would ordinarily be transferred by the bridge process are not transferred except in-band management packets are transferred to the in-band management process regardless of which network from which they arrived. An out-of-band to in-band management process receives network management commands and executes them or forwards them in-band to whatever device to which they are addressed.

Also, hardware and software to implement an isolate mode where data packets which would ordinarily be transferred by the bridge process are not transferred except in-band management packets are transferred to the in-band management process regardless of which network from which they arrived. Also disclosed, a packet switching machine having shared high-speed memory with multiple ports, one port coupled to a plurality of LAN controller chips coupled to individual LAN segments and an Ethernet microprocessor that sets up and manages a receive buffer for storing received packets and transferring pointers thereto to a main processor. The main processor is coupled to another port of the memory and analyzes received packets for bridging to other LAN segments or forwarding to an SNMP agent. The main microprocessor and the Ethernet processor coordinate to manage the utilization of storage locations in the shared memory. Another port is coupled to an uplink interface to higher speed backbone media such as FDDI, ATM etc. Speeds up to media rate are achieved by only moving pointers to packets around in memory as opposed to the data of the packets itself. A double password security feature is also implemented in some embodiments to prevent accidental or intentional tampering with system configuration settings.

TL;DR: In this article, a single-phase high-efficiency near-unity power-factor (PF) half-bridge boost converter circuit is presented with detailed analysis and design considerations for the power circuit using the fixed-band hysteresis current control (HCC) technique.
Abstract: A single-phase high-efficiency near-unity power-factor (PF) half-bridge boost converter circuit, which has been proposed earlier by other researchers, is presented with detailed analysis. This converter is capable of operating under variable PF. However, the focus of this paper is in achieving unity PF operation only. The efficiency of this circuit is high because there is only one series semiconductor on-state voltage drop at any instant. The existence of an imbalance in the voltages of the two DC-link capacitors, which was noted before, is confirmed here. The cause for the imbalance is analyzed using appropriate models, and a control method to eliminate it is discussed in detail. Analysis and design considerations for the power circuit using the fixed-band hysteresis current control (HCC) technique are provided. The analytical results are verified through simulation using switched and averaged circuit models of the scheme and also through experimental work. At 90-V AC input and 300-W 300-V output, the experimental prototype demonstrates an efficiency of 96.23% and a PF of 0.998. This converter, with its relatively high DC-output voltage, is well suited for the 110-V utility supply system. A circuit modification for universal input voltage range operation is also suggested.
