TL;DR: In this article, the behavior of a model kinetic equation used for describing the density fluctuation spectrum in molecular gases was analyzed in detail in the kinetic regime, in the case of molecular gases.
Abstract: We analyze in detail, in the kinetic regime, the behavior of a model kinetic equation previously used by us for the description of the density fluctuation spectrum in molecular gases. We find that ...

TL;DR: The results show the potential use of magnons for mediating microwave-to-optical carrier conversion and allows an input photon polarized colinearly to the magnetization to be scattered to a sideband mode of orthogonal polarization.
Abstract: Magnons in ferrimagnetic insulators such as yttrium iron garnet (YIG) have recently emerged as promising candidates for coherent information processing in microwave circuits. Here we demonstrate optical whispering gallery modes of a YIG sphere interrogated by a silicon nitride photonic waveguide, with quality factors approaching 10^{6} in the telecom c band after surface treatments. Moreover, in contrast to conventional Faraday setups, this implement allows an input photon polarized colinearly to the magnetization to be scattered to a sideband mode of orthogonal polarization. This Brillouin scattering process is enhanced through triply resonant magnon, pump, and signal photon modes within an "optomagnonic cavity." Our results show the potential use of magnons for mediating microwave-to-optical carrier conversion.

TL;DR: In this paper, the saturation effect in the stimulated Brillouin scattering of coherent light waves was analyzed and two coupled first-order nonlinear equations for the intensities of the primary and Stokes waves were proposed.
Abstract: An analysis is given of the saturation effect in the stimulated Brillouin scattering of coherent light waves. It is shown that the three coupled nonlinear wave equations describing the complex amplitudes of the forward‐traveling primary and acoustic waves and the backward‐traveling Stokes wave can be replaced for room‐temperature situations by two coupled first‐order nonlinear equations for the intensities of the primary and Stokes waves. These resulting equations are solved exactly and the solutions describe completely the process of photoelastic amplification of the coherent Stokes wave via stimulated Brillouin scattering in both the linear and the nonlinear saturated regimes. The results also give a more realistic estimate of the intensity of the hypersonic wave generated in the process than that made on the basis of either the Manley‐Rowe relationship, which does not take into account the losses, or the usual linear theories, which do not take into account the saturation effect. It is believed that th...

TL;DR: The first demonstration of on-chip stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) is reported and the measured BrillouIn shift and line width are ∼7.7 GHz and 6 MHz in a 7 cm long chalcogenide waveguide.
Abstract: We report the first demonstration of on-chip stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) with low average power. The measured Brillouin shift and line width are ∼7.7 GHz and ∼6 MHz in a 7 cm long chalcogenide waveguide.

TL;DR: In this paper, the important dependence of the SBS gain and threshold on the spectrum and modulation parameters of the optical transmitter is discussed and possible techniques for suppressing SBS in optical communications systems are discussed.
Abstract: Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS) has recently been observed in low-loss monomode fibers at power levels of only a few milliwatts. This article reviews the increasingly important influence which SBS will have on the design and operating range of future optical communications systems which employ low-loss fiber and narrowband laser transmitters. The important dependence of the SBS gain and threshold on the spectrum and modulation parameters of the optical transmitter is described. Possible techniques for suppressing SBS in optical communications systems are discussed.
