Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: Four new species of nyctotherid ciliates of the sub-genus Aduncuperistomatus Grasse 1928 from anuran amphibians in India are described, characterised by the presence of a distinct sub-oesophageal canal, typical shape of the macronucleus and distinctly different “V” shaped structures.

TL;DR: A simple and modified dorsal approach method has been made in the toad's (Bufo melanostictus) sciatic gastrocnemius nerve-musle preparation that incurs less blood loss, time consumption, nerve damage and visceral spoil compared to conventional ventral approach method.
Abstract: A simple and modified dorsal approach method has been made in the toad's (Bufo melanostictus) sciatic gastrocnemius nerve-muscle preparation. This method incurs less blood loss, time consumption, nerve damage and visceral spoil compared to conventional ventral approach method.

TL;DR: The alkaline protease appeared to be more important than pepsin in protein digestion and responded more to the increase of temperature than the latter in Bufo melanostictus.
Abstract: 1. 1. The contents of the stomach of Bufo melanostictus had acidic pH (2.2); all other segments of the digestive tract had a slightly alkaline pH (7.2–7.6). 2. 2. The pepsin-type protease had an optimum pH at 2.0–2.2 and the alkaline protease had an optimum pH at 7.2. The former responded more to the increase of temperature than the latter. 3. 3. Quantitative distributions of these two proteases were determined and compared. The alkaline protease appeared to be more important than pepsin in protein digestion. 4. 4. Effects of starvation and environmental temperature on protease secretion were also determined.

TL;DR: The process of melting in the common Indian toad, bufo melanostrus has been described staging of the moulting cycle has been done based on the behaviour of the toads and visual morphology of the skin.
Abstract: The process of melting in the common Indian toad, bufo melanostrus has been described staging of the moulting cycle, which occurs once in 5 to 6 days, has been done based on the behaviour of the toads and visual morphology of the skin. These stages have been compared with those of a temperate species.
