Abstract: Recent experimental and analytical developments regarding burnout in subcooled and low-quality forced-convection systems are reviewed. Many data have been accumulated which clarify the parametric trends and lead to new design correlations for water and a variety of other coolants in both simple and complex geometries. A number of critical experiments and models have been developed to attempt to clarify the burnout mechanism(s) in simpler geometries. Other topics discussed include burnout with power transients and techniques to augment burnout. 86 references.
