TL;DR: In this article, a 3D finite element simulation of a pipe-flange joint is presented to describe the numerical procedure for modeling of tack welds in circumferential joints.
Abstract: Welding deformations play an important role in sealing capabilities and service life of welded pipe-flange joints A numerical procedure for modeling of tack welds in girth butt-welding of such joints is of vital importance for the prediction of transverse shrinkage and flange face deformation, which is directly related to the joint sealing capability This paper presents a 3-D finite element simulation of a pipe-flange joint to describe the numerical procedure for modeling of tack welds in circumferential joints Sequentially coupled nonlinear transient thermo-mechanical analysis is performed to simulate Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding Single pass butt weld geometry with single “V” for 100 mm nominal diameter pipe with same sized weld neck type ANSI flange of class no 300 is used Temperature dependent material properties are used and deposition of filler metal is obtained by element birth and death feature The peak temperature of the tack during the butt-welding of the tacked model is concluded a key parameter for numerical prediction of deformations, whereas tack temperature has negligible effect on the residual stresses

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a tail welding device for variable cross-section waveform web H-shaped steel cutting set, which is capable of improving efficiency, saving human power and reducing cost.
Abstract: The utility model belongs to a butt welding device for a variable cross-section waveform web H-shaped steel cutting set, the butt welding device for the variable cross-section waveform web H-shaped steel cutting set solves the problems that a specialized device for completing cutting or welding of variable cross-section waveform web H-shaped steel does not exist so far, and manual welding is high in labor intensity, low in efficiency and bad in accuracy in background technology. In order to solve the problems, the butt welding device for the variable cross-section waveform web H-shaped steel cutting set is characterized in that translation frames which are symmetrical left and right, the left translation frame and the right translation frame are respectively provided with a feeding chain are arranged on a base, a lifting roller way is arranged between the left translation frame and the right translation frame, the left translation frame and the right translation frame are respectively connected with a hydraulic cylinder, walking trolleys which are provided with controllers and symmetrical left and right are arranged on the outer side of the left translation frame and on the outer side of the right translation frame, mechanical arms which are symmetrical left and right are connected on the inner sides of the left and right walking trolleys, plasma cutting machines or rotating welding guns are arranged on the mechanical arms which are symmetrical left and right, and laser sensors are further arranged on the mechanical arms which are symmetrical left and right. The butt welding device for the variable cross-section waveform web H-shaped steel cutting set can be applied to produce variable cross-section waveform web H-shaped steel, and capable of improving efficiency, saving human power and reducing cost.

20 Apr 1998TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed to correct the ambient temperature of the environment of the parts at the moment of welding, according to at least one of the following parameters: pressure, electrical energy to be supplied to means for displacement of the said parts, stroke(s) of relative displacement, time for obtaining beads at the end of the part during the phase of heating the latter.
Abstract: It concerns butt-welding of parts made of plastics material(s). For this purpose, the invention proposes correcting, according to an ambient temperature which is measured in the environment of the parts at the moment of welding, at least one of the following parameters: pressure(s) for contact and/or welding of the parts, electrical energy to be supplied to means for displacement of the said parts, stroke(s) of relative displacement of the parts, time for obtaining beads at the end of the parts during the phase of heating the latter.

TL;DR: It is shown that within a long period (1 year) the relaxation occurs not only in amorphous but also in the crystalline phase (crystalline α-form transforms into mixed αβ-form), with respective changes in polyethylene properties.
Abstract: The paper presents results of the investigation of structure relaxation and thermal properties of PE-80 and PE-100 polyethylene hot-tool butt welds. It was found that a weld with the re-crystallized crystalline structure is formed during the welding of dissimilar types of polyethylene. It is shown that within a long period (1 year) the relaxation occurs not only in amorphous but also in the crystalline phase (crystalline α-form transforms into mixed αβ-form), with respective changes in polyethylene properties.
