Abstract: A system and method for smart, persistent cache management of received content within a terminal. Received content is tagged with cache directive allowing cache control to determine which of cache storage locations to use for storage of content. Cache control detects the number of instances that received content correlates to a newer version of purged content and provides the ability to re-classify cache persistence directive based upon the number of instances.

Abstract: We present CacheAudit, a versatile framework for the automatic, static analysis of cache side channels. CacheAudit takes as input a program binary and a cache configuration and derives formal, quantitative security guarantees for a comprehensive set of side-channel adversaries, namely, those based on observing cache states, traces of hits and misses, and execution times. Our technical contributions include novel abstractions to efficiently compute precise overapproximations of the possible side-channel observations for each of these adversaries. These approximations then yield upper bounds on the amount of information that is revealed.In case studies, we apply CacheAudit to binary executables of algorithms for sorting and encryption, including the AES implementation from the PolarSSL library, and the reference implementations of the finalists of the eSTREAM stream cipher competition. The results we obtain exhibit the influence of cache size, line size, associativity, replacement policy, and coding style on the security of the executables and include the first formal proofs of security for implementations with countermeasures such as preloading and data-independent memory access patterns.

Abstract: A second level cache memory controller, implemented as an integrated circuit unit, operates in conjunction with a secondary random access cache memory and a main memory (system) bus controller to form a second level cache memory subsystem. The subsystem is interfaced to the local processor (CPU) bus and to the main memory bus providing independent access by both buses, thereby reducing traffic of the main memory bus when the data required by the CPU is located in secondary cache. Similarly, CPU bus traffic is minimized when secondary cache access by the main memory bus for snoops and write-backs to main memory. Snoop latches interfaced with the main memory bus provide snoop access to the cache memory via the cache directory in the secondary cache controller unit. The controller also supports parallel look-up in the controller tag array and the secondary cache using most-recently-used (MRU) main memory write-through and pipelining of memory bus cycle requests.

Abstract: A bus snoop control method for maintaining coherency between a write-back cache and main memory during memory accesses by an alternate bus master. The method and apparatus incorporates an option to source `dirty` or altered data from the write-back cache to the alternate bus master during a memory read operation, and simultaneously invalidate `dirty` or altered data from the write-back cache. The method minimizes the number of cache accesses required to maintain coherency between the cache and main memory during page-out/page-in sequences initiated by the alternate bus master, thereby improving system performance.
