TL;DR: In this paper, a method for the manufacture of precipitated calcium carbonate from impure calcium oxide of improved colour is described, which comprises admixing impure calcina with an aqueous solution consisting essentially of a salt of at least one compound selected from the group consisting of organic amines of the formula RNH2 and alkanolamines of formula NH2(R1OH), where R and R1 are alkyl groups of 1-4 carbon atoms, and hydrochloric or nitric acid.
Abstract: A method for the manufacture of precipitated calcium carbonate from impure calcium oxide of improved colour is disclosed. The method comprises admixing impure calcium oxide with an aqueous solution consisting essentially of a salt of at least one compound selected from the group consisting of organic amines of the formula RNH2 and alkanolamines of the formula NH2(R1OH), where R and R1 are alkyl groups of 1-4 carbon atoms, and hydrochloric or nitric acid. The solution obtained is separated from insoluble matter and then treated with carbon dioxide or the carbonate of the amine or alkanolamine. Preferably, the amine of the salt and of the carbonate are the same, and the salt is used in at least the stoichiometric amount to dissolve the lime.

TL;DR: In this article, the water-cement ratio and the quantity and fineness of sand are shown to influence the evolution of lime in set portland cement systems, and the results have been interpreted on the basis of a "through-solution" mechanism of formation of CH in which after the hydrolysis of the calcium silicates C3S and C2S, calcium hydroxide precipitates out of solution as crystals.

TL;DR: In this paper, a calcium oxide-free binder comprised of a hydratable alumina source and magnesium oxide is used to obtain high green strength, improved corrosion resistance, improved magnesium oxide hydration resistance, and controllable work and set times.
Abstract: This invention relates to cement-free refractories exhibiting high green strength, improved corrosion resistance, and improved magnesium oxide hydration resistance useful as refractory castables for steel ladles, slag contact areas, ladle sidewalls and bottoms, and the like and as precast refractory shapes, such as well blocks, nest blocks, and the like. More particularly, this invention is directed hydraulically-bonded monolithic refractories containing a calcium oxide-free binder comprised of a hydratable alumina source and magnesium oxide and which exhibit high green strength, improved corrosion resistance, improved magnesium oxide hydration resistance, and controllable work and set times.

TL;DR: A toxic waste fixant for detoxification of a contaminated soil, sediment, and or sludge material includes a mixture of: ferric and/or ferrous sulfate, manganese sulfate as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: A toxic waste fixant for detoxification of a contaminated soil, sediment, and or sludge material includes a mixture of: ferric and/or ferrous sulfate, manganese sulfate, and/or aluminium sulfate and/or Portland cement, and/or gypsum (calcium sulfate), and/or blast furnace slag, and/or lime (calcium oxide). Fixants made from mixtures of the above compounds are designed to prevent leaching in excess of regulatory standards for specified inorganic and organic toxic compounds and elements. These fixants will also reduce the concentration of most organic toxic compounds through various chemical reactions and bonding as determined by solvent extractions and analysis by GC/MS. The ferric and/or ferrous sulfate may be partially or completely replaced by cobalt sulfate, whereas instead of the respective sulfates the corresponding chlorides may be used as well.
