12 Jul 1974TL;DR: A sintered catalyst article is prepared by molding into a shaped article and aging (I) either a refractory powder of calcium aluminate substantially free of silicon dioxide, alone, or B. a homogenous mixture of 1.5 and 2.5 oxides as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: A sintered catalyst article is prepared by: molding into a shaped article and aging (I) either A. a refractory powder of calcium aluminate substantially free of silicon dioxide, alone, or B. a homogenous mixture of 1. said refractory powder and 2. at least one member selected from the group consisting of aluminum oxide, calcium oxide, beryllium oxide, magnesium oxide, strontium oxide and a compound which is converted by heating to one of said oxides; (II) sintering said molded and aged article at a temperature above 1150°C; the thus sintered catalyst article containing 10 to 60 wt. percent of calcium oxide, 30 to 90 wt. percent of aluminum oxide, 0 to 30 wt. percent of at least one oxide selected from the group consisting of beryllium oxide, magnesium oxide and strontium oxide, and less than 0.2 wt. percent of silicon dioxide.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of catalyst type and concentration on the production of alkyd resins using castor seed oil (CSO) was evaluated, and the results showed that the reaction time was fastest in LiOH followed by PbO, CaCO3,======NaOH and CaO catalyst.
Abstract: Significant scientific and
economic benefits may be derived from investigating the best choice of catalyst
in the alkyd resin synthesis. The effect of catalyst type and concentration on
the production of alkyd resin using castor seed oil (CSO) was evaluated.
Lithium hydroxide, lead (II) oxide, calcium carbonate, sodium hydroxide and
calcium oxide were investigated. The
fatty acid profile of the raw CSO was determined using GC-MS while structural
elucidation of the CSO based alkyd resins was determined using FTIR
spectrometry. The CSO modified
alkyd resin produced has acid values of 5.0, 5.61, 7.0 8.24 and 11 for lithium
hydroxide, lead (II) oxide, calcium carbonate, sodium hydroxide and calcium
oxide respectively. The extent of reaction was 95%, 95%, 91%, 89% and 88% for
lithium hydroxide, lead (II) oxide, calcium carbonate, sodium hydroxide and
calcium oxide respectively at the reaction time of 150 minutes. The alcoholysis
reaction completion time was fastest in LiOH followed by PbO, CaCO3,
NaOH and CaO catalyst. Physico-chemical
parameters of the oil and performance evaluation of the alkyd films suggest
that they are sustainable materials for surface coating. LiOH shows excellent
robustness to expanded process parameters.

TL;DR: In this paper, an improved process and apparatus for the removal of sulphur dioxide from flue gas or other waste gas of the kind in which the waste gas is scrubbed by a circulating wash liquid containing lime suspensions, i.e. suspensions of calcium oxide, hydroxide or carbonate, the calcium/sulphur compounds so formed being oxidized and removed from the circulation.
Abstract: The invention is concerned with improved process and apparatus for the removal of sulphur dioxide from flue gas or other waste gas of the kind in which the waste gas is scrubbed by a circulating wash liquid containing lime suspensions, i.e. suspensions of calcium oxide, hydroxide or carbonate, the calcium/sulphur compounds so formed being oxidized and removed from the circulation, the improvements of the present invention comprising primarily the freeing of the wash liquid from solid matter before contact with the waste gas and then the control of pH values of the wash liquid at different stages of the circulation to facilitate, for example, the oxidation of the particular calcium/sulphur compound, formed in the scrubbing process, to calcium sulphate, the apparatus also being designed to improve the oxidation step.

TL;DR: In this paper, the reaction between sulfur dioxide and calcium oxide, pertaining to atmospheric fluidized bed combustion, was investigated using thermogravimetric analysis, IR spectroscopy and X-ray powder diffraction, at 600-900 °C and with SO2 concentrations of 0.1-0.9% in N2.
