TL;DR: In this article, a synthetic calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) made with calcium to silicate (C/S) mixture ratios of 0.9, 1.2 and 1.5 respectively is characterized.
Abstract: Synthetic calcium silicate hydrate (C–S–H) made with calcium to silicate (C/S) mixture ratios of 0.9, 1.2 and 1.5 respectively is characterized. C–S–H was produced by extracting calcium oxide (CaO) from calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and then mixing it with micro-silica (SiO2) and deionized water to make slurry. The slurry was continuously mixed for 7 days, then the excess water was removed and thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) was conducted. The drying method was equilibrated to 11% relative humidity (RH). The stoichiometric formula of the synthetic C–S–H were approximated as C0.7SH0.6, C1.0SH0.8 and C1.2SH2.4 for C/S mixture ratios of 0.9, 1.2 and 1.5 respectively. The dried powders were characterized using X-ray diffraction analysis (XRDA), and 29Si magic angle spinning (MAS) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The powders were also compacted with 95 MPa pressure and nanoindentation of the compacted specimens were then undergone to mechanically characterize the synthetic C–S–H. The experiments provide insight on the nanoscale mechanical characteristics of C–S–H.

TL;DR: In this paper, the beneficial changes occurred in a marine clay due to the diffusion of lime from lime column and lime injected points have been studied using XRD and SEM techniques and new compounds formed have been identified using the XRD technique.
Abstract: The use of lime to improve the behavior of marine clays has been in practice in several parts of the world over a long period. In this paper, the beneficial changes occurred in a marine clay due to the diffusion of lime from lime column and lime injected points have been studied using XRD and SEM techniques. The new compounds formed have been identified using the XRD technique. The diffusion of lime has been established through the measurements of lime content and pH from the samples taken at different locations and at various time periods. The transformation of the soil particles due to lime attack on the clay minerals present in a marine clay has been studied and discussed.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of sulfate on the rate of hydration was measured with a conduction calorimeter on neat cement pastes, and the results showed that at their optimum gypsum contents the cements all showed essentially equal drying shrinkages.
Abstract: The effect of sulfate on the rate of hydration was measured with a conduction calorimeter on neat cement pastes. Mortar prisms were used for physical tests. These studies have shown that a proper regulation of the reaction of early hardening is of much greater importance than merely regulating the time of setting. Such regulation not only influences the rate of hydration, but affects the strength and volume-change characteristics of the hardened cement paste. With some cement compositions the gypsum retards the initial hydration and set, while with others it acts as an accelerator. For each cement there is an optimum gypsum content, and calcium oxide, aluminum oxide content all influence this gypsum requirement. At their optimum gypsum contents the cements all showed essentially equal drying shrinkages.
