TL;DR: In this paper , a series of N-doped hierarchical porous carbons were successfully prepared from the direct pyrolysis process of three food waste components, and the porous biochar that derived from bone showed a high specific surface area (1405.06 m2/g) and sizable total pore volume (0.97 cm3/g).

TL;DR: In this paper, an organic sludge firming agent and a manufacturing method of an artificial soil using the same are provided to prevent odor and heavy metal elution by lowering the pH of biosoil by adding a pH lowering agent, to have an excellent absorption capacity and a high heat generating temperature when in contact with moisture by using a high content of free-calcium oxide(CaO) and Iron(II) oxide(FeO) in high calcium slag dust from the evaporation of moisture by absorption and a heat generating reaction of CaO.
Abstract: PURPOSE: An organic sludge firming agent and a manufacturing method of an artificial soil using the same are provided to prevent odor and heavy metal elution by lowering the pH of biosoil by adding a pH lowering agent, to have an excellent absorption capacity and a high heat-generating temperature when in contact with moisture by using a high content of free-calcium oxide(CaO) and Iron(II) oxide(FeO) in high calcium slag dust from the evaporation of moisture by absorption and a heat generating reaction of CaO. CONSTITUTION: An organic sludge firming agent comprises 10-200 parts by weight of high calcium slag dust with 40-80% of Calcium oxide(CaO) content based on 100 parts by weight of paper sludge ash with 35-70% of CaO. The surface area of the paper sludge ash and high calcium slag dust is 2,000-9,000/g. The additional heat generating agent is included to increase a heat generating reaction of organic sludge. The heat generating agent is a compound with one or more of selected lime stone powder, light burning dolomite powder, and petrol cokes incinerate material powder. The 5-50 parts by weight of the heat generating agent are mixed based on 100 parts by weight of the paper sludge ash. The additional pH lowering agent is included to prevent odor and heavy metal elution of the solidified organic sludge.

TL;DR: The application of ferrous slags as aggregate, road bed materials, soil fertility conditioner and as clinker materials depend on their chemical and mineralogical characteristics as discussed by the authors, however, these slags could be used as road bed material.
Abstract: The application of ferrous slags as aggregate, road bed materials, soil fertility conditioner and as clinker materials depend on their chemical and mineralogical characteristics. In order to assess the possibilities of using ferrous slags generated in Ghana, selected slag samples from some foundries have been characterized. A total of six bulk samples were collected from three different foundry shops to determine their chemical and mineralogical composition. The slag samples showed varied chemical and mineralogical characteristics. Differences are as a result of the differences in furnace charge, operation temperatures, grades of refractory furnace lining and melting additives. Calcium oxide (CaO) contents observed in all investigated samples were in combined form (i.e. not free CaO). The low amounts of calcium oxide in the slag samples limit their applications in the area of cement/aggregate production. Even though slags were found to be alkaline, for these slags to effectively neutralize the acidity of soil and improve its fertility, components such as CaO, SiO2, MgO and FeO in the slag must be improved. However, these slags could be used as road bed materials.

TL;DR: In this article, a series of calcium-based sorbents were chosen to evaluate the selective adsorption performance of mercury, these sarsbents included a calcium oxide adsorbent, a KCl-doped calcium oxide adorbent and a K2CO3-decompositioned calcined calcium oxide (C-SiO2), which all supported by mesoporous silica.
