TL;DR: The π0 detector constructed for the T-violation search experiment E246 at KEK is described in this article, which consists of 768 CsI(Tl) crystals with PIN photodiode readout.
Abstract: The π0 detector constructed for the T-violation search experiment E246 at KEK is described. It consists of 768 CsI(Tl) crystals with PIN photodiode readout. The crystals are assembled in a tight barrel with holes for muons entering the magnetic spectrometer. The design and performance of the calorimeter are presented. The average light yield of 11 000 p.e./MeV and average equivalent noise level of 63 keV (bench test) were obtained for the CsI(Tl) modules used in the calorimeter. The coherent noise was found to be about 11 keV per a module. A readout electronics has been specifically developed for the high counting rate environment of the experiment. A π0 invariant mass resolution of 9.9 MeV (σ) was obtained for the whole detector, including regions around the muon holes. A time resolution of 3.8 ns (rms) was achieved in the photon energy range of 10–200 MeV.

TL;DR: In this paper, the principles of calorimeter construction are discussed, considering mainly the isothermal and the adiabatic mode of operation as well as the methods of quantitative differential thermoanalysis (DTA) and the twin or differential Calorimeter.

TL;DR: A flow calorimeter with an adjustable throttle, suitable for measurements of the pressure and temperature-dependence of the enthalpy of vapours, is described in this article, where values of (B−T d B d T ), where B is the second virial coefficient, have been derived from the results and analysed together with previous piezometric measurements of B, new piezometrically measured of B reported in an Appendix to this paper, and previous flow-calorimetric measurements of T 2 d 2 Bd T 2.

TL;DR: In this paper, the performance and application of PbWO/sub 4/ in electromagnetic calorimetry at energies far below 1 GeV has been continued, and the significantly improved optical and scintillation properties of 15 cm long Nb/La-doped crystals, optimized for the ECAL/CMS calorimeter, are documented.
Abstract: The study of the performance and application of PbWO/sub 4/ in electromagnetic calorimetry at energies far below 1 GeV has been continued. The significantly improved optical and scintillation properties of 15 cm long Nb/La-doped crystals, optimized for the ECAL/CMS calorimeter, are documented. The lineshape, energy and time response of a 5/spl times/5 matrix are tested with monoenergetic photons up to 790 MeV energy and compared to previous measurements. First attempts have been made to enhance the scintillation yield by suitable dopants (Mo,Tb) for applications at very low photon energies. As a first large scale project at medium energies, the proposed concept for a compact photon spectrometer to be implemented into the ANKE magnetic spectrometer at COSY (KFA Julich) is illustrated.

TL;DR: A microfabricated calorimeter (μ-calorimeter) with an enclosed reaction chamber is presented and measurement results for diffusivity and heat capacitance using time delay method and thermal wave analysis are presented.
Abstract: A microfabricated calorimeter (μ-calorimeter) with an enclosed reaction chamber is presented. The 3D micromachined reaction chamber is capable of analyzing liquid samples with volume of 200 nl. The thin film low-stress silicon nitride membrane is used to reduce thermal mass of the calorimeter and increase the sensitivity of system. The μ-calorimeter has been designed to perform DC and AC calorimetry, thermal wave analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry. The μ-calorimeter fabricated with an integrated heater and a temperature sensor on opposite sides of the reaction chamber allows to perform thermal diffusivity and specific heat measurements on liquid samples with same device. Measurement results for diffusivity and heat capacitance using time delay method and thermal wave analysis are presented.
