TL;DR: The ATLAS detector has been designed for operation at CERN's Large Hadron Collider and includes a complex system of liquid argon calorimeters as discussed by the authors, and the electronics for amplifying, shaping, sampling, pipelining, and digitizing the calorimeter signals are implemented on the Front End Boards (FEBs).
Abstract: The ATLAS detector has been designed for operation at CERN's Large Hadron Collider. ATLAS includes a complex system of liquid argon calorimeters. The electronics for amplifying, shaping, sampling, pipelining, and digitizing the calorimeter signals is implemented on the Front End Boards (FEBs). This paper describes the design, implementation and production of the FEBs and presents measurement results from testing performed at several stages during the production process.

TL;DR: There is a considerable difference between the thermal properties of the coating and the corresponding bulk material, according to the results of the measurement of absorptance in optical coatings.
Abstract: A thermographic laser calorimeter for the measurement of absorptance in optical coatings is described. The heat transport equation is solved for a laser-heated disk with a thin-film coating. The solutions are used to calculate the output characteristics of the thermographic scanning system. The absorption and the thermal conductivity of oxide coatings (SiO2, TiO2, HfO2, Al2O3, and Ta2O5) were measured. Results lead to the conclusion that there is a considerable difference between the thermal properties of the coating and the corresponding bulk material.

TL;DR: SKIROC as discussed by the authors is a front end chip designed for the readout of the Silicon PIN diodes foreseen for the Electromagnetic CALorimeter (ECAL) at the future International Linear Collider.
Abstract: SKIROC (Silicon Kalorimeter Integrated ReadOut Chip) is the front end chip designed for the readout of the Silicon PIN diodes foreseen for the Electromagnetic CALorimeter (ECAL) at the future International Linear Collider. The fine granularity of the ILC calorimeters implies an extremely large number of electronics channels (82 millions) which is a new feature of ``imaging'' calorimetry. Moreover, for compactness, the chips must be embedded inside the detector without any external component making essential the reduction of the power consumption to 25 μWatt per channel. This is achieved using power pulsing, made possible by the ILC bunch pattern (1 ms of acquisition data for 199 ms of dead time).
