TL;DR: In this article, a mixture of bituminous coal and a caustic lignin was studied and the liquid product from the coal-lignin mixture contained a lower fraction of the undesirable benzene insolubles than the product for coal alone.
Abstract: Liquefaction of mixtures of an Illinois bituminous coal and a caustic lignin was studied. Reactions were conducted at an initial hydrogen pressure of 1.1 MPa and at a temperature of 375°C, in tetralin. The liquid product from the coal-lignin mixture contains a lower fraction of the undesirable benzene insolubles than the product for coal alone. Size-exclusion chromatography studies indicate that, with the coal-lignin mixture, the weight-averaged molecular weight for the overall liquid product is lower than the molecular weight obtained by reacting coal or lignin alone

TL;DR: In this paper, coal was modified by selective benzylation reactions and the O - and C -benzyl, benzyl-d 7 and benzyl 1-13 C products were pyrolysed in a wire screen reactor at 500-1000 °C.

TL;DR: A series of mixtures of Japanese subbituminous Taiheiyo coal and Athabasca oil sand bitumen (AOB) with various coal concentrations (0-100 wt%) was coprocessed in a 70 ml autoclave at 420°C for 1 h in the presence of H 2 (50 kg/cm 2 at room temperature) and sulfided Ni Mo/Al 2 O 2 catalyst as mentioned in this paper.
