TL;DR: Examination of job advertisements published online between 2001 and March 2003 is examined to determine the degree of overlap between traditional and electronic duties in the modern library organization, and draws some conclusions about the state of the digital library.
Abstract: Electronic resources are transforming the way librarians work. New technological skills have been added to the librarian's tool kit. Some libraries have undertaken large-scale organizational reconfigurations to meet the challenges of the digital environment. Yet libraries still rely on traditional functions such as acquisitions, cataloging, and reference. This paper examines job advertisements published online between 2001 and March 2003 to determine the degree of overlap between traditional and electronic duties in the modern library organization, and draws some conclusions about the state of the digital library.

TL;DR: The paper provides a roadmap for future work on FRBR implementation and the creation of better library information systems by investigating three main aspects of future FRBR-related research and developments.
Abstract: Introduction. To provide valuable services in the future, libraries will need to create better information systems and set up an infrastructure more in line with the current technologies. The Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records conceptual model provides a basis for this transformation, but there are still a number of unresolved issues connected to its actual implementation. Method. Using conceptual analysis, the paper investigates three main aspects of future FRBR-related research and developments. Analysis. For each of the three areas, the paper describes its current position and identifies the questions that will need to be resolved in the broader library community. Results. The library community needs to rethink three key aspects connected to the creation and sharing of bibliographic data: what bibliographic data users need in their information seeking process, how this data should be presented and interacted with in bibliographic information systems and, last but not least, how this data should be encoded and managed. Page 1 of 10 Creating better library information systems: the road to FRBR-land 11/12/2013 http://informationr.net/ir/18-3/colis/paperC07.html Conclusion. Implementation of the Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records model is only at its beginning. The paper provides a roadmap for future work on FRBR implementation and the creation of better library information systems.

TL;DR: A survey of selected ARL and non-ARL libraries revealed a lack of production standards in many libraries and a variety of standards among those that have them.
Abstract: The cataloging profession has not defined quantitative standards by which cataloging output can be uniformly measured and compared among libraries. In today's climate of decreasing budgetary resources, increasing service demands, and the need to do more with less, how do cataloging departments quantify performance expectations? In an effort to determine what cataloging production standards exist in academic libraries, a survey of selected ARL and non-ARL libraries was conducted. The survey covered library characteristics, staffing patterns, cataloging tasks, production standards, and the effect of technology on productivity. The survey revealed a lack of production standards in many libraries and a variety of standards among those that have them.

TL;DR: The Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records from the IFLA study group on functional requirements for bibliographic records has been chosen as the theoretical foundation for teaching cataloguing in Denmark as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: The report Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records from the IFLA Study Group on Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records has been chosen as the theoretical foundation for teaching cataloguing in Denmark. This paper illustrates the way we have implemented the ideas in the report in the teaching of cataloguing at The Royal School of Library and Information Science. Our experiences with this theoretical foundation are satisfactory, and we intend to go on developing our curriculum on this basis.
