Abstract: A three-component catalyst is prepared comprising a particulate silica adsorbent with boron trifluoride and water adsorbed on the silica. The silica-water-boron trifluoride catalyst is used in hydrocarbon conversion reactions such as the oligomerization of 1-decene to a product predominating in the trimer and tetramer.
