14 Jul 1988TL;DR: In this article, a plurality of intelligent cells, each comprising an integrated circuit having a processor and input/output sections are coupled in a network, each of the programmable cells includes a unique identification number (ID) at the time it is manufactured.
Abstract: A network for providing sensing, communications and control. In the present invention a plurality of intelligent cells (27, 28), each comprising an integrated circuit having a processor and input/output sections are coupled in a network. Each of the programmable cells includes a unique identification number (ID) at the time it is manufactured. When organized in a network, each of the cells performs at least one of the following functions: (1) sensing, (2) communicating, (3) controlling. Groups of cells may be organized to perform group functions and may be assigned a group ID. Cells and groups may be referenced by cell ID and group ID.

24 Jun 2016TL;DR: In this paper, a user terminal for communicating with a radio base station in an unlicensed band is provided with a detection section that detects a synchronization signal transmitted from a radio BS using a dummy cell ID used in common among a plurality of radio BSs.
Abstract: In order that a user terminal properly identifies a connection cell in a radio communication system (LTE-U) for operating LTE in an unlicensed band, a user terminal for communicating with a radio base station in an unlicensed band is provided with a detection section that detects a synchronization signal transmitted from a radio base station using a dummy cell ID used in common among a plurality of radio base stations, an estimation section that performs channel estimation using a reference signal, and a reception processing section that performs reception processing of system information transmitted from a radio base station using a channel estimation result.

09 Nov 2010TL;DR: In this paper, a multi-tier approach is used to monitor a mobile device's current location using a multiuser approach, where a baseband subsystem can monitor a coarse location of the mobile device using various course location parameters, such as a mobile country code (MCC), a location area code (LAC), or a cell identifier (cell ID).
Abstract: A mobile device can monitor a current location using a multi-tier approach. A baseband subsystem can monitor a coarse location of the mobile device using various course location parameters, such as a mobile country code (MCC), a location area code (LAC), or a cell identifier (cell ID), as the mobile device moves closer to the geographic region. Upon determining that the mobile device is in a cell that intersects the geographic region, the baseband subsystem can transfer the monitoring to the application subsystem. The task can be performed when the application subsystem determines that the mobile device is currently located in the geographic region. A beacon network can provide more accurate estimates of mobile device location and advertise location based services available to the mobile device.

TL;DR: A new approach, database correlation method (DCM), which takes advantage of the multipath characterized propagation in urban surroundings by utilizing the measured power delay profiles in the location estimation, which is adequate for most location applications and within the range required by emergency services.
Abstract: The implementation and usage of many location-based services focuses in densely populated urban areas. In this paper we present a new approach, database correlation method (DCM), which takes advantage of the multipath characterized propagation in urban surroundings by utilizing the measured power delay profiles in the location estimation. The performance of the DCM is evaluated alongside with the 3GPP standard techniques, observed time difference of arrival (OTDOA) and cell identification (cell ID). Obtained results imply that DCM circumvents most of the urban environment related problems, contrary to the OTDOA, whose accuracy and availability are degraded. With DCM the achieved accuracy in simulations was 25 m in 67% of the estimates, which is adequate for most location applications and within the range required by emergency services.

21 Apr 2008TL;DR: In this paper, a method and a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), including a universal subscriber identity module (USIM), for identifying a closed subscriber group (CSG) cell are disclosed.
Abstract: A method and a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), including a universal subscriber identity module (USIM), for identifying a closed subscriber group (CSG) cell are disclosed. The WTRU receives a broadcast from a cell including a cell identifier (ID). If the cell ID is associated with a CSG cell, the WTRU determines whether the CSG ID is programmed in the USIM. The cell broadcast may include a single bit information element (IE) indicating that the cell is a CSG cell. If the cell ID is a CSG ID, the cell ID may further include a plurality of fields which indicate at least one of a country, a region, an operator, and a home evolved Node-B (HeNB) number. The cell broadcast may further include a bit indicating whether the CSG cell is public or private. The cell broadcast may further include a bit indicating that emergency calls are allowed from all users.
