TL;DR: In this paper, the first and second opposed cantilevered ends of a centrally supported flexible plate form two independently operating valves to respectively control serially connected inlet and outlet ports of a valve chamber forming a part of a compression release passageway connecting the combustion chamber of the engine with a zone of lower pressure such as the cylinder sidewall exhaust port of a two-cycle engine.
Abstract: An automatic compression release mechanism for an internal combustion engine wherein first and second opposed cantilevered ends of a centrally supported flexible plate forms two independently operating valves to respectively control serially connected inlet and outlet ports of a valve chamber forming a part of a compression release passageway connecting the combustion chamber of the engine with a zone of lower pressure such as the cylinder sidewall exhaust port of a two-cycle engine. The valves are each one-way check valves operating oppositely to one another. The valve controlling the outlet port is normally biased to an open position and remains open when the engine is turned over at the relatively slow cranking speeds normally used to start the engine, relieving somewhat engine compression, thereby facilitating the starting of the engine. The outlet valve is flexed to a closed position in response to a rapid pressure build-up in the chamber caused by ignition of the fuel-air mixture in the engine combustion chamber, thereby sealing the compression release passage after the engine starts. A restricted passageway from the compression release chamber to the zone of lower pressure, such as the cylinder sidewall exhaust port, which passageway is independent of the chamber valves, slowly diminishes the chamber pressure to release each valve to return to its respective open position a predetermined time after the engine stops running. The restricted passageway and the outlet port of the compression release chamber may both be connected to the cylinder sidewall exhaust port by a hollow interior portion of the engine piston pin.

TL;DR: In this paper, the mixing enhancement behavior of N2 shear coaxial jets between two injector geometries is analyzed and compared with a total of 20 cases with one injector geometry and 15 with the other, corresponding to different momentum flux ratios (J values) at subcritical, nearcritical and supercritical pressures.
Abstract: An investigation of the mixing enhancement behavior of N2 shear coaxial jets between two injector geometries is presented. A total of 20 cases with one injector geometry and 15 with the other, corresponding to different momentum flux ratios (J values) at subcritical, nearcritical and supercritical pressures are analyzed and compared. The measurements are extracted from 998 backlit images for each data point. Acoustic excitation is used to analyze the response of the system to velocity and pressure perturbations. The frequency of the system varied from 2.90 to 3.11 kHz and the maximum peak-to-peak pressure perturbation as a percentage of the mean chamber pressure was 4%. It was found that the geometry differences between the two injectors had a large impact on their behavior. The qualitative response of one of the injectors to acoustics at low J values in the subcritical regime was completely different to the other. In contrast, when comparing cases with very similar J values for different pressures, it was found that the normalized dark core length between these cases remains close regardless of phase angle for the two injectors despite the fact that the relative acoustic excitation intensities for subcritical pressures were up to eight times stronger than those at near and supercritical chamber pressures.

TL;DR: A vessel for storing fluid under pressure includes a housing having a chamber in one end thereof into which concentric pistons of differential areas are urged by resilient means until the pressure and volume of fluid respectively, each attains a first predetermined value, at which time the pistons are held against further movement.
Abstract: A vessel for storing fluid under pressure includes a housing having a chamber in one end thereof into which concentric pistons of differential areas are urged by resilient means. Admission of fluid under pressure to the chamber acts on the differential areas of the pistons moving them simultaneously against the resilient means until the pressure and volume of fluid respectively, each attains a first predetermined value, at which time the pistons are held against further movement, with the piston having the larger area being held against a fixed stop and the piston having the smaller area being held by the resilient means up to a second predetermined value of chamber pressure which represents the maximum fluid working pressure of the system to which the vessel is connected. Any pressure increase in the chamber above the second predetermined value, due to fluid expansion caused by temperature increase, is effective across the differential area between the concentric pistons so that as the chamber pressure exceeds the second predetermined pressure value the piston with the smaller area will move against the resilient means to compensate for volumetric increase.
