TL;DR: In this article, a video signal processing circuit is incorporated in an IC for camcorder in which a camera signal outputted from a CCD image sensor is processed in a digital manner such that luminance and color signals can be outputted.
Abstract: A video signal processing circuit is incorporated in an IC for camcorder in which a camera signal outputted from a CCD image sensor is processed in a digital manner such that luminance and color signals can be outputted. In the IC, a vertical interpolation circuit produces two kinds of vertically interpolated data on the basis of a digital camera signal of one channel within an image area being set by an electronic zoom function. A YC separation circuit receives the two kinds of vertically interpolated data, and an output of the YC separation circuit is applied a horizontal interpolation circuit or an RGB composition circuit. If the YC separation output is applied to the horizontal interpolation circuit, the same outputs two kinds of horizontally interpolated data upon which three primary color signals are composed by the RGB composition circuit. If the YC separation output is applied to the RGB composition circuit, the horizontal interpolation circuit produces two kinds of horizontally interpolated data on the basis of three primary color data outputted by the RGB composition circuit.

TL;DR: In this article, a multipoint digital automatic white balance system is provided that automatically compensates for changes in illumination conditions by measuring the relative output of the red to green and the blue to green channels at many different illumination levels.
Abstract: A multipoint digital automatic white balance system is provided that automatically compensates for changes in illumination conditions. Three color channels are balanced by measuring the relative output of the red to green channels and the blue to green channels at many different illumination levels. Base line measurements obtained in the green channel are used to create calibrated green channel data that is stored in a green channel LUT, which in turn is used to create corresponding red and blue channel data that is stored in red and blue LUTs. In operation, digitized red, green and blue input signals are applied to the red, green and blue LUTs to generate white balance corrected red, green and blue output signals.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used separate filters for suppressing macroghosts and microghosts, the filtering parameters of these filters being adjustable responsive to digital programming signals generated by a computer.
Abstract: Ghosts accompanying composite video signals are suppressed using separate filters for suppressing macroghosts and microghosts, the filtering parameters of these filters being adjustable responsive to digital programming signals generated by a computer. Computation includes data acquisition and channel characterization steps followed by a decision step for comparing the most recent set of channel characterization results with the next most recent set to determine whether stable ghosting conditions obtain. Data acquisition and channel characterization steps are repeated until stable ghosting conditions obtain, so the subsequent calculations with respect to the filter used for suppressing macroghosts are accurately performed. Where the filter suppressing macroghosts includes IIR and FIR sections for suppressing post-ghosts and preghosts, respectively, these calculations are carried out substantially on a separable basis, simplifying the calculations. Then, a step of calculating the filtering parameters for the FIR filter used for suppressing microghosts is followed by further data acquisition and channel characterization steps and a decision step comparing the most recent set of further channel characterization results with the next most recent set of further channel characterization results to determine similarity. If the sets of further channel characterization results are substantially the same, either method loops back to the further data acquisition step; if not, the adjustable filtering parameters for the filters are reset to initial values and the method restarts automatically.

Abstract: An algorithm based on texture analysis for the extraction of endocardial borders in bi-dimensional echocardiographic images is presented. Using the Inverse Difference Moment (IDM) of the original image, an image that contains texture information is constructed and is used as a texture channel. Application of appropriate thresholding on projections of the cooccurrence matrix of the texture channel allows separation of regions and borders. The method has been applied to apical four chamber views and paraesternal short axis views, showing excellent results in determining reliable borders. Aditionally, by adding some detection criteria and medical knowledge of the heart, the algorithm can detect borders in incomplete and noisy images.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable a surface of an object to be inspected which moves at a high speed to be inspected by a surface-inspection device with a retor- reflection screen. CONSTITUTION:A carrier channel which carries an object to be inspected is introduced into a surface-inspection device with a retro-reflection screen 5 and an object 13 to be inspected which passes a specified position is captured as a still image by a strobe light source 2 or a high-speed shutter. An image which is picked up where a defective portions is highlighted by the retro-reflection screen 5 is obtained, a difference in image pick-up conditions in reference to a standard image which is picked up previously is captured and at the same time the picked up image is subtracted from the standard image, thus enabling only a defective image to be extracted.

Abstract: Inhomogeneities within a Love wave’ s propagating channel may generate backscattered energy. The transmitted and backscattered energy correspond to positive and negative wavenumbers, respectively, and so may be separated by o-k filtering. Subsequent reverse-time extrapolation of the wavesields with application of a cross-correlation image condition produces an image containing the lateral position of the inhomogeneities.

TL;DR: The experimental results show that MEEF outperforms independent edge enhancing filter in improving the degraded edges caused by unfocusing, interlaced scanning and channel dispersion.
Abstract: In this paper, a multichannel edge enhancing filter (MEEF) applied to color image processing is proposed to improve the degraded edges in color TV picture which are classified as the following cases: the blurred edges caused by unfocusing or fast shift of camera, the serrated edges caused by interlaced scanning, and the chroma-cross edges caused by channel dispersion Because of a high between-channel dependence in color image, individual edge enhancement in each channel is not a natural method without utilizing between-channel dependence. Thus, this technique is not recommended in color image processing. The proposed MEEF is successfully used in dealing with this sort of the degraded edges of multichannel image. The root signals and edge enhancement properties of MEEF are investigated in detail. The experimental results show that MEEF outperforms independent edge enhancing filter in improving the degraded edges caused by unfocusing, interlaced scanning and channel dispersion.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To stably correct a time code by bringing an image varying point into coincidence with a time code varying point at the time of reproducing a digital VTR at a low speed. CONSTITUTION:An image data identification signal ID of a channel number, a segment number, a field number is recorded, in addition to video data, on a magnetic tape 1. A reproducing head 9 is scanned from left to right, from bottom to top, a series of these data are extracted, amplified, waveform-shaped by a reproducing amplifier 10, and only the identification signal is decoded by a synchronous ID detection circuit 11. Accordingly, if the tape 1 is fed at an actual speed or less, the field number is varied to 1, 2, 1, 2, and video data corresponding to the field number are sequentially stored in a frame memory 13. A memory writing address of this case is generated by an address controller 12 by using the channel number, segment number, field number decoded by the detection circuit 11, reading of the memory 13 is started at the varying point of the field number, and output to a terminal by a D/A converter 15.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method are provided which can control the intensity level of an exposing device so that the desired pixel density is consistently disposed on the correct location on an image recording medium. Specifically, within a printing apparatus, even channel circuitry controls the intensity level of the exposing device during exposure of the even numbered pixels on the image recording medium and an odd channel circuitry controls the intensity level of the exposing device during the exposure of the odd numbered pixels on the image recording medium.

Abstract: We extend the MRF image model commonly employed in the Bayesian development of image segmentation procedures to include a degradation channel resulting in a 2D hidden Markov model as the basis for the segmentation problem. We solve the segmentation problem by deriving the expectation-maximization algorithm for the case where the 'hidden' Markov source is the 2-D MRF that generates a true scene and the degradation channel is an additive, memoryless, grey-level degradation process that produces the observed scene.© (1992) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering. TL;DR: In this paper, the level value of a color difference signal is calculated based on the color temperature of an iris, which is calculated by integrating all the pictures of signals R, G and B for each channel.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain satisfactory color reproducibility regardless of the class of a light source by discriminating under which kind of the light source a video camera is used based on the aperture and color temperature of an iris, and correcting color reproduction by increasing/decreasing the level value of a color difference signal. CONSTITUTION:When a camera 1 is used outdoors, the aperture of an iris 3a is enlarged and the level value of a signal P is increased. On the other hand, when the camera 1 is used indoors, the aperture of the iris 3a is enlarged, and the level value of the signal P is decreased. Therefore, when the level value of the signal P is smaller than a prescribed value, it is judged that the camera 1 is used indoors. Since the color temperature is low when the camera 1 is used indoors and the light source is not sunlight, the color temperature is calculated by executing an operation processing based on a value obtained by integrating all the pictures of signals R, G and B for each channel. Then, when an image pickup picture is almost green on a condition that the color temperature is low, it is discriminated that the light source is a fluorescent lamp.
