TL;DR: Transparent polyamide blends are obtained which exhibit improved properties with respect to transparency, color, and chemical resistance, in particular stress cracking resistance against isopropanol, without resulting losses in the mechanical properties as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: Polyamide mixtures (blends) or alloys having improved transparency, chemical resistance and slight natural color, as well as a process improving the melting capacity and homogeneity of blends of polyamide according to formula (I) and partly crystalline polymers according to formula (II). Transparent polyamide blends are obtained which exhibit improved properties with respect to transparency, color, and chemical resistance, in particular stress cracking resistance against isopropanol, without resulting losses in the mechanical properties. At the same time it was possible to distinctly raise the throughput during extrusion while maintaining optimum transparency.

TL;DR: Anionic waterborne polyurethane dispersions are formed in the presence of polyfluorooxetane oligomers, polymers, or copolymers so that the polyfluoroxetanes are incorporated in the polyurethsane as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: Anionic waterborne polyurethane dispersions are formed in the presence of polyfluorooxetane oligomers, polymers, or copolymers so that the polyfluorooxetanes are incorporated in the polyurethane. Coatings made from such polyurethanes have good low temperature flexibility, good chemical resistance, stain resistance, and abrasion resistance, as well as a low coefficient of friction. Alternatively, the anionic water borne polyurethane dispersion can be blended with vinyl ester monomers such as various acrylates and subsequently polymerized by radiation, for example ultraviolet light, to form a comingled blend of at least two different types of polymers. Another embodiment relates to a preformed copolymer made by reacting the polyfluorooxetane oligomer, polymer, or copolymer with a polycarboxylic acid such as a dicarboxylic acid and subsequently reacting the same with a polyol intermediate, such as a polymer, or with monomers forming the polyol intermediate.

TL;DR: In this paper, an organic-inorganic hybrid material was developed based on polyfunctional silanols as new monomers in sol-gel processing, which can combine the desirable properties of organic polymers with those of inorganic solids (hardness, chemical resistance).
Abstract: Organic-inorganic hybrid materials offer the opportunity to combine the desirable properties of organic polymers (toughness, elasticity) with those of inorganic solids (hardness, chemical resistance). Since improved mechanical and chemical resistance is an increasing demand for various coating applications, hybrid materials were developed based on polyfunctional silanols as new monomers in sol-gel processing. After hydrolysis and condensation with different co-reactants, coatings with superior optical and mechanical properties are obtained at ambient temperature. Such hybrid coatings show excellent chemical resistance and high UV stability. Although the adhesion to many substrates is good without additional pretreatment, the hybrid coatings exhibit a very anti-adhesive surface. Due to these properties potential applications include automotive clear coats, hard coats for plastics, anti-graffiti coatings and biocide-free fouling-release coatings.

TL;DR: The SAN copolymers are inherently transparent plastics with high heat resistance and excellent gloss and chemical resistance as mentioned in this paper, and they are also characterized by good hardness, rigidity, dimensional stability, and loadbearing strength.
Abstract: Acrylonitrile is a versatile and reactive monomer that can be polymerized under a wide variety of conditions and copolymerized with an extensive range of other vinyl monomers because of its polar nature and reactivity. Because of the difficulty of melt processing the acrylonitrile homopolymer, acrylonitrile is usually copolymerized to achieve a desirable thermal stability, melt flow, and physical properties. Acrylonitrile-containing polymers are used in the areas of textile fibers, carbon fiber percursors, adhesives, binders, antioxidants, medicines, dyes, electrical insulations, emulsifying agents, graphic arts materials, insecticides, leather, paper, plasticizers, soil-modifying agents, solvents, surface coatings, textile treatments, viscosity modifiers, azeotropic distillations, artificial organs, lubricants, asphalt additives, water-soluble polymers, hollow spheres, cross-linking agents, and catalyst treatments. Styrene is the largest volume acrylonitrile comonomer for thermoplastic applications. Styrene–acrylonitrile (SAN) copolymers are inherently transparent plastics with high heat resistance and excellent gloss and chemical resistance. They are also characterized by good hardness, rigidity, dimensional stability, and load-bearing strength. In general, the styrene component of SAN resins offers clarity, stiffness, and processibility, while the acrylonitrile provides chemical and heat resistance. Because of their inherent transparency, SAN copolymers are most frequently used in clear application. These optically clear materials can be readily processed by extrusion and injection molding, but they lack real impact resistance. SAN resins show considerable resistance to solvents and are insoluble in carbon tetrachloride, ethyl alcohol, gasoline, and hydrocarbon solvents. Polar solvents dissolve SAN. The properties of SAN are significantly altered by water absorption. Commercially, SAN is manufactured by three processes: emulsion, suspension, and continuous mass polymerization. More than 75% of the SAN resin produced is believed to be used captively for acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene compounding and in the production of acrylonitrile–styrene–acrylate and acrylonitrile–EPDM–styrene weatherable copolymers. SAN resins appear to pose few health problems, and they have been approved by the FDA for direct food contact. Copolymers of acrylonitrile and methyl acrylate and terpolymers of acrylonitrile, styrene, and methyl methacrylate are used as barrier polymers. Acrylonitrile multipolymers containing indene; methyl methacrylate, and α-methylstyrene are used as poly(vinyl chloride) modifiers for heat distortion temperature and processibility improvement. TL;DR: In this paper, solid polyelectrolyte membranes are made from resins bearing both phosphoric acid groups and sulfonic acid groups which resins are obtained by copolymerizing a monomer bearing in the molecule aosphoric acid group and an ethylenically unsaturated bond.
Abstract: The invention relates to solid polyelectrolyte membranes and processes for their production. As solid polyelectrolyte materials, there have been known fluoropolymers which have perfluoroskeletons and side chains bearing sulfonic acid groups and heat-resistant resins which have hydrocarbon skeletons and contain alkylsulfonic acid or alkylphosphoric acid groups introduced thereto. The fluoropolymers are excellent in heat resistance and chemical resistance but have the problem of being expensive, while the heat-resistant resins have the problem of being poor in chemical resistance. Further, solid polyelectrolyte materials having higher electric conductivities have been desired. With the purpose of providing solid polyelectrolyte membranes having satisfactorily high electric conductivities and being excellent in heat resistance and chemical resistance and processes for producing the membranes, solid polyelectrolyte membranes are made from resins bearing both phosphoric acid groups and sulfonic acid groups which resins are obtained by copolymerizing a monomer bearing in the molecule a phosphoric acid group and an ethylenically unsaturated bond with a monomer bearing in the molecule a sulfonic acid group and an ethylenically unsaturated bond.
