TL;DR: In this paper, a new organic-solvent-free water-phase suspension method was used to synthesize partially epoxidized high trans-1,4-polyisoprene (TPI) to improve its properties, including oil resistance and wet-skid resistance.
Abstract: A new organic-solvent-free water-phase suspension method was used to synthesize partially epoxidized high trans-1,4-polyisoprene (TPI) to improve its properties, including oil resistance and wet-skid resistance. The epoxidation was conducted in an aqueous peracetic acid solution and on the TPI granules prepared by a bulk precipitation method with supported titanium catalyst. The effects of the synthesis conditions, including reaction temperature, reaction time, and pH value, on the epoxy content were investigated. Epoxidized trans-1,4-polyisoprene (ETPI) with epoxy contents between 10 and 80% were obtained within 4 h. Both the amorphous and crystalline regions of TPI were epoxidized. The crystallization properties decreased with increasing epoxy content. ETPIs possessed lower mechanical properties than TPI but could be enhanced by vulcanization. The oil resistance and wet-skid resistance were significantly improved after epoxidation. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2008

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of composition on the adhesive property (i.e., lap shear strength and chemical resistance) of polycaprolactam reactive blends was investigated.
Abstract: Different ratios of epoxy resin (i.e., diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A [DGEBA] and caprolactam) have been used to synthesize DGEBA/polycaprolactam reactive blends by carrying out anionic polymerization of caprolactam at 140°C. Anionic polymerization conducted by a strong base such as sodium hydride was used as a catalyst along with a cocatalyst such as N-acetyl caprolactam. The experiments were carried out to study the effect of composition on the adhesive property (i.e., lap shear strength and chemical resistance of the reactive blends). It was observed that the lap shear strength of the reactive blends increased with increasing DGEBA content from 50 to 70 wt% and increased drastically above 70 wt% DGEBA content with all metals (i.e., copper, aluminum, stainless steel, and mild steel). The lap shear strengths of all these reactive blends were observed to be maximum on mild steel. The study of chemical resistance indicates that the films of reactive blends Ep75Ca25 and Ep80Ca20 with 75 and 80 wt% DGEBA co...

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of isocyanate composition, NCO/OH ratio, and percentage of fluorine content on anti-graffiti performance has been studied and correlated with the surface and bulk film properties.
Abstract: Alow-VOC 2K waterborne polyurethane anti-graffiti coating has been developed to address the industrial need for low-odor formulations using less solvent. The formulation platform methodology has effectively been applied to explore and optimize the film properties with a number of formulation parameters. The effect of isocyanate composition, NCO/OH ratio, and percentage of fluorine content on anti-graffiti performance has been studied. The surface and bulk film properties have been correlated with the anti-graffiti performance. It is found that the fluorine content at or near the coating surface and incorporating chain-stiffening IPDT to improve barrier properties are the most important factors for excellent anti-graffiti performance. In addition, these waterborne coatings demonstrate excellent recoatability and chemical resistance.
