TL;DR: In this paper, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was used to obtain chemical composition and chemical state information about the surface, before and after the removal of the atmospheric contamination.
Abstract: Atomic hydrogen cleaning has been used to produce structurally and electronically damage-free InAs(110) surfaces. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was used to obtain chemical composition and chemical state information about the surface, before and after the removal of the atmospheric contamination. Low energy electron diffraction (LEED) and high-resolution electron-energy-loss spectroscopy (HREELS) were also used, respectively, to determine the surface reconstruction and degree of surface ordering, and to probe the adsorbed contaminant vibrational modes and the collective excitations of the clean surface. Clean, ordered and stoichiometric InAs(110)-(1×1) surfaces were obtained by exposure to thermally generated atomic hydrogen at a substrate temperature as low as 400oC. Semi-classical dielectric theory analysis of HREEL spectra of the phonon and plasmon excitations of the clean surface indicate that no electronic damage or dopant passivation were induced by the surface preparation method.

TL;DR: In this article, the production of CO2 was studied as a function of the substrate temperature and structure and the oxidation state of the samples, and the results showed that CO2 production depends on the original conditions of the used samples.
Abstract: Rhodium deposited onto thin films of cerium dioxide was exposed by molecular beams of CO and O2. Production of CO2 was studied as a function of the substrate temperature and structure and the oxidation state of the samples. Polycrystalline CeO2 films as well as oriented CeO2(111)/Cu(111) ones were used. The results show that CO2 production depends on the original conditions of the used samples. Morphology of their surface (oriented or polycrystalline) as well as their chemical state (oxidised or reduced) is important. The observed effects are discussed with a respect to the X-ray photoelectron spectra obtained at particular steps of the experiment. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method is presented to determine the correct atomic ratio between Ni and P in the surface layers, taking into account that nickel atoms are mainly displaced toward inner layers.

TL;DR: In this article, a complex image has been fabricated in a mixture of cupric sulphate and formaldehyde, the surface and subsurface properties of which has been studied in detail by X-ray and sputter depth profiling combined with sputter-depth profiling.
Abstract: By means of
electroless copper deposition method a complex image has been fabricated in a
mixture of cupric sulphate and formaldehyde, the surface and subsurface
properties of which has been studied in detail by X-ray
photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) combined with sputter depth profiling
technique analyzing distribution and chemical state of copper and silver.
Depth profiling by XPS in conjunction with Ar+ sputtering shows that
the catalytic activity of silver persists, catalyzing reduction of copper. The
integral areas of spectra Ag3d after electroless copper deposition for 5 min at
different sputtering times demonstrate that the amount of silver at the surface
is greater than that in the interior. And then, the quite likely reasonable
explanations are provided for the result. Additionally, the chemical shift of
Ag3d XPS and deconvolution of Ag3d XPS spectrum have been also analyzed
respectively at length.
