TL;DR: Electromagnetic theory is used to calculate the gradual loss of polarization in light scattering from surface roughness, and the polarization degrees are connected with the structural parameters of surfaces.
Abstract: Electromagnetic theory is used to calculate the gradual loss of polarization in light scattering from surface roughness. The receiver aperture is taken into account by means of a multiscale spatial averaging process. The polarization degrees are connected with the structural parameters of surfaces.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that the cross-polarized component of the reflected LCP beam can be eliminated by interference with an additional RCP beam that is reflected at the interface of an isotropic cover and an AR (antireflecting) layer.

TL;DR: In this article, a wideband circularly polarized (CP) dielectric resonator antenna with filtering response was proposed in this communication, which achieved an average gain of 6 dBic with a variation less than 1 dB.
Abstract: A wideband circularly polarized (CP) dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) with filtering response was proposed in this communication. To combine additional filtering and harmonic suppression functions within an antenna while realizing circular polarization, a new wideband filtering quadrature coupler was implemented to feed a hollow DRA. The filtering quadrature coupler was based on a snowflake shaped patch, whose operating modes can be flexibly controlled by the loading slots. Quarter wavelength coupled line sections were introduced to the coupler, realizing simultaneously wide bandwidth, excellent bandpass filtering, and wide harmonics suppression characteristics. For demonstration, a filtering CP antenna operating at 1.8 GHz was designed, fabricated, and measured. Reasonable agreement between simulated and measured results was observed. The prototype exhibited excellent bandpass filtering characteristics together with a wide overlapping bandwidth of 27.8%, within which the axial ratio value was less than 3 dB, and return loss was better than 12.4 dB. Over the same band, an average gain of 6 dBic with a variation less than 1 dB was achieved. A rejection level larger than 19 dB was found within the suppression band up to the third harmonic.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a light source device which efficiently condenses light from a large number of solid light sources and has high spectrum utilization rate of emission obtained by exciting a fluorescent substance.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device which efficiently condenses light from a large number of solid light sources and has high spectrum utilization rate of emission obtained by exciting a fluorescent substance.SOLUTION: The light source device includes: a solid light source unit 1 including a solid light source 5 which emits blue color light and a condenser lens 7; a dichroic mirror 2 which polarizes and separates the color light into a first polarization component and a second polarization component; a fluorescent emission plate 3 which is excited by the light having the first polarization component to emit fluorescence of green and red components and makes the fluorescence to be incident to the dichroic mirror; a first retardation plate 18 which transforms polarization having the second polarization component into circular polarization; and a reflector plate which reflects light transmitted through the first retardation plate to make the light to be incident to the first retardation plate again, in which the dichroic mirror synthesizes color light from the fluorescent emission plate and color light having transmitted through the first retardation plate again and emits white light. The light source device also includes a second retardation plate 12 which changes a polarization direction of light from the solid light source unit and controls light having P polarization component and S polarization component, which is made incident to the dichroic mirror, to a fixed ratio.

TL;DR: A new type of light is shown that possesses orbital angular momentum and enhanced chiral response, and in the locations where the beams show enhanced optical chirality, only the longitudinal components of the electric and magnetic fields survive.
Abstract: Tang and Cohen [Phys. Rev. Lett.104, 163901 (2010)] recently demonstrated a scheme to enhance the chiral response of molecules, which relies on the use of circularly polarized light in a standing wave configuration. Here we show a new type of light that possesses orbital angular momentum and enhanced chiral response. In the locations where the beams show enhanced optical chirality, only the longitudinal components of the electric and magnetic fields survive, which has unexpectedly shown what we believe is a new way to yield an enhanced optical chiral response.
