TL;DR: The analysis leads to the conclusion that mobility-related issues should be addressed from a network-wide point of view, taking advantage of terminal cooperation at the local and global level in order to effectively manage mobility in cognitive networks.
Abstract: This work deals with mobility-related issues in cognitive radio network design. With few notable exceptions, research activity on cognitive radio networks focused until now on the case of static networks, neglecting to take into account the impact of mobility on network design. In this work the key issues posed by mobility at the different layers of the protocol stack are discussed, and a case study focusing on routing in cognitive Ultra Wide Band networks is presented, in order to quantitatively assess the impact of mobility on network performance. Next, existing solutions for mobility management in cognitive networks are reviewed, and open issues and future research lines for mobiler cognitive network design are identified. The analysis leads to the conclusion that mobility-related issues should be addressed from a network-wide point of view, taking advantage of terminal cooperation at the local and global level in order to effectively manage mobility in cognitive networks.

TL;DR: In this article, a radio communication CPU 89 controls each section by using network setting information in a network setting storage section 86 of the radio communication equipment 3 included in a short distance radio communication network to set a connection relation with a communication network.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the setting or the like of a network for the connection of each portable equipment constituting a radio LAN system to the Internet or the like. SOLUTION: A radio communication CPU 89 controls each section by using network setting information in a network setting storage section 86 of the radio communication equipment 3 included in a short distance radio communication network to set a connection relation with a communication network (e.g. the Internet) so as to control transmission reception of data to/from a device included in a communication network via the short distance radio communication network.

TL;DR: According to the simulation results, the proposed scheme can improve the sensing efficiency and attain the convergence in a short time, so it may be regarded as a good attempt for the future intelligent cognitive radio systems.
Abstract: More than an adaptive system, the cognitive radio system should be a kind of intelligent system. In the paper, a Q-Learning algorithm of the Intelligent Control Theory is adopted to solve the sensing task selection problem among cognitive radio users in the distributed cognitive radio networks. In the proposed scheme, each cognitive radio user selects its sensing task through times of interaction with the environment and self-learning by means of its embedded Q-Learning module. The scheme works without any CSI or estimation of primary traffic. According to the simulation results, the proposed scheme can improve the sensing efficiency and attain the convergence in a short time, so it may be regarded as a good attempt for the future intelligent cognitive radio systems.

TL;DR: It is proposed as a hypothesis that the key issue in the future is to understand and lower the increasing complexity (increasing abstraction) of communications systems.
Abstract: We are arguing that some new interesting trends in making are emerging. We try to identify some aspects that could provide hard problems with potentially high payout for the future research. We also show how some of the topics are shared between both wireless and fixed network domain. We propose as a hypothesis that the key issue in the future is to understand and lower the increasing complexity (increasing abstraction) of communications systems. There are several different ways towards this goal.

TL;DR: The effect of using additional channel in the cognitive networks is studied, and an adaptive method of MAC protocol in the interest of throughput enhancement in cognitive radio network is suggested, and the performance of the proposed mechanism is proved by simulations.
Abstract: Cognitive radio technology has been proposed to share the scarce spectrum resources without disturbing the legacy devices of wireless network. The cognitive radio device is allowed to use the spectrum only when it does not cause any interferences or collisions to the incumbent users. We suggest an adaptive MAC protocol for the purpose of a throughput enhancement in cognitive radio networks. Assuming the channel status is dynamically known to the devices, they change their transmission mode between frame recovery mode and dual transmit mode according to the channel status. When the cognitive channel is hard to use due to frame errors, the channel is used for the frame errors recovery. Otherwise, in addition to its own legacy channel, the cognitive channel can be used to increase the throughput. In this paper, we study the effect of using additional channel in the cognitive networks, and prove an adaptive method of MAC protocol in the interest of throughput enhancement in cognitive radio network, and prove the performance of our proposed mechanism by simulations.
