TL;DR: This work generalizes this variable-length and faithful scenario to the general quantum source producing mixed states rho(i) with probability p(i), and finds the optimal compression rate in the limit of large block length differs from the one in the fixed- length and asymptotically faithful scenario.
Abstract: A classical random variable can be faithfully compressed into a sequence of bits with its expected length lying within one bit of Shannon entropy. We generalize this variable-length and faithful scenario to the general quantum source producing mixed states ${\ensuremath{\rho}}_{i}$ with probability ${p}_{i}$. In contrast to the classical case, the optimal compression rate in the limit of large block length differs from the one in the fixed-length and asymptotically faithful scenario. The amount of this gap is interpreted as the genuinely quantum part being incompressible in the former scenario.

TL;DR: This work proves a one-shot version of the quantum covering lemma along with operator Chernoff bound for non-square matrices and bounds on the amount of information Alice can communicate to Bob such that Eve gets to know as little information as possible about the transmitted messages.
Abstract: In this work we study the problem of communication over the quantum wiretap channel. For this channel there are three parties Alice (sender), Bob (legitimate receiver) and Eve (eavesdropper). We obtain upper and lower bounds on the amount of information Alice can communicate to Bob such that Eve gets to know as little information as possible about the transmitted messages. Our bounds are in terms of quantum hypothesis testing divergence and smooth max quantum relative entropy. To obtain our result we prove a one-shot version of the quantum covering lemma along with operator Chernoff bound for non-square matrices.

TL;DR: The maximum mutual information without coding is investigated for binary quantum-state signals and the truemaximum mutual information is numerically analysed for the binary case.
Abstract: The maximum mutual information without coding is investigated for binary quantum-state signals. The necessary condition for detection operators to represent the information optimal detection is satisfied for M-ary symmetric quantum-state signals by the detection operators derived from the quantum minimax strategy while its purpose is a minimization of the error probability. The true maximum mutual information is numerically analysed for the binary case.

TL;DR: In this article, the fidelity of a quantum transformation is strongly linked with the prior partial information of the state to be transformed, and the authors propose and demonstrate the superior cloning of coherent states under the Gaussian assumption.
Abstract: The fidelity of a quantum transformation is strongly linked with the prior partial information of the state to be transformed. We illustrate this interesting point by proposing and demonstrating the superior cloning of coherent states with prior partial information. More specifically, we propose two simple transformations that under the Gaussian assumption optimally clone symmetric Gaussian distributions of coherent states as well as coherent states with known phases. Furthermore, we implement for the first time near-optimal state-dependent cloning schemes relying on simple linear optics and feedforward.

TL;DR: The kinetic energy decomposition for both stationary and nonstationary states is demonstrated and the dequantization procedure is employed to shed light on the nature of kinetic energy functionals.
