TL;DR: It is shown that the relationship between communication loss and accuracy of hazard detection algorithm is non-linear and that employing error-dependent communication logic will yield considerable gains in communication or accuracy of tracking and hazard detection.
Abstract: Cooperative collision avoidance systems rely on communication between vehicles to detect possibility of collision. In this paper, we present a systematic approach to study the performance of emerging communication based vehicle safety systems. Examples of such systems include forward collision warning (FCW) application. We employ a co-simulation tool that we have developed jointly in collaboration with industry partners for this purpose. The tool allows joint study of the safety application and its underlying communication system. We utilize this tool and study the impact of communication uncertainties on a new variation of the FCW algorithm that has been designed by the team. In this paper, the impact of communication loss and the choice of signal communication logic are examined. It is shown that the relationship between communication loss and accuracy of hazard detection algorithm is non-linear. It is also shown that employing error-dependent communication logic will yield considerable gains in communication or accuracy of tracking and hazard detection. Network awareness in communication logic is also demonstrated to be beneficial in high communication loss situations.

TL;DR: In this article, a mobile station carries out an adjacent cell search under low power consumption in a multi-cell radio communication environment where connection between cells or TDMA frame synchronization is not established.
Abstract: Under a multi-cell radio communication environment where connection between cells or TDMA frame synchronization is not established, a mobile station carries out an adjacent cell search under low power consumption. Adjacent cell information acquired through search by the mobile station is managed centered on a base station and may be provided by the base station as adjacent cell information, when the mobile station carries out the adjacent cell search. The adjacent cell information includes, for example, a TDMA frame offset between cells so that the mobile station receives a broadcast channel of the adjacent cell at appropriate timing based on the adjacent cell information and therefore does not need to perform unnecessary reception operation in the event of a handoff.

TL;DR: In this paper, the arrangement of small-sized flying objects is discussed in order to cover all users and attain network constitution most advantageous at the point of time, and a communication route between the base station and the mobile station is routed aptly.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system which is inexpensive as an infrastructure, facilitates maintenance, and enlarges a communication area even in the region of a low population density. SOLUTION: A base station 101 decides the arrangement of small-sized flying objects 102 so as to cover all users and so as to attain network constitution most advantageous at the point of time. The respective small-sized flying objects are arranged such that intervals between a mobile station 103 and the small-sized flying object 102, between the small-sized flying objects and between the small-sized flying object 102 and the base station 101 are respectively a prescribed distance or less. Then, through the small-sized flying objects whose arrangement is ended, a communication route between the base station 101 and the mobile station 103 is routed aptly. That is, routing is performed so as to disperse traffic. The mobile station 103 starts communication with the base station 101 by using the decided communication route. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe protocols for routing user communication data to a user associated with at least a first user device and a second user device operable in a communication system, including proxying a data message between the first user devices and a presence server, extracting, from the data message, information indicative of an availability of the user, and routing user communications data to at least one of the first users and the second users based at least in part on the extracted information.
