06 Jul 2015TL;DR: This paper presents the solution on storing and analysing user data on a centralized server based on the usage of the cube model in parallel with a traditional, table-based storage of log data, aiming to support gamified learning for children with dyslexia.
Abstract: User profiling and e-learning have received great attention in the last years. In a learning environment, user profiling provides historical data of the students' performance on different learning subjects. e-Learning tools such as serious games can collect user's data and build a user profile by appropriate storing these information. Thus, by combining above techniques and analysing each user's data a teacher can provide personalized treatment to her/his students. In this paper we present our solution on storing and analysing user data on a centralized server. Our system stores data collected from users with dyslexia. We maintain one user profile per student from data taken from a) user responses on a screening test and b) from user's performance on a set of serious games. The learning process then depends on the above data, so it is important to store and analyse our resources efficiently while respecting the user's privacy. Our solution is based on the usage of the cube model in parallel with a traditional, table-based storage of log data. The services we present are part of the iLearnRW1 project, aiming to support gamified learning for children with dyslexia.

TL;DR: Familiarity with user and usage research is a prerequisite for this book, and the book focuses on the procedural steps in building the conceptual model.
Abstract: User and usage research conducted before, during, and after the design can provide information and insights regarding those factors. Familiarity with user and usage research is a prerequisite for this book. Since user research is critical to conceptual design, we will go over it here within a limited scope because the book focuses on the procedural steps in building the conceptual model. The following is a brief overview of some of the key techniques and outcomes in user research that are relevant to conceptual design. User and usage research, for whatever purpose it is, typically consist of: data collection and analysis. The most common analyses are generating user scenarios and personas, performing task analysis and object-action analysis, and mapping user journey and experience.

23 Jul 2018TL;DR: This pilot study revalidates an instrument that measured end user satisfaction with now 20-year old information systems and which has been widely cited and used on a state-of-the-art, search-driven enterprise portal.
Abstract: Advances in new information technology have considerably changed the end user computer environment. Therefore, it is appropriate to revalidate existing user satisfaction measurement instruments. Doll and Torkzadeh (1988) developed an instrument that measured end user satisfaction with now 20-year old information systems and which has been widely cited and used. This pilot study revalidates their measurement instrument on a state-of-the-art, search-driven enterprise portal.

TL;DR: A new approach that engages the user with the brand, while at the same time keeping the user in the website is presented, which works by asking the user a question relating to the ad, and if the user responds correctly, the ad is immediately removed.
Abstract: Traditional video ads in TV are not well suited for Internet sites. If the user feels a site is forcing him/her to watch long video ads, will stop visiting that site. Therefore, the current approach is to allow the user to skip the ad after a few seconds, despite this means that the ads will have little impact. This paper presents a new approach that engages the user with the brand, while at the same time keeping the user in the website. The approach works by asking the user a question relating to the ad, and if the user responds correctly, the ad is immediately removed. This approach presents benefits both for users and advertisers. The benefit for the user is that (s)he can skip the ad immediately. The benefit for the advertiser is that by putting mental effort on the brand, the brand has more impact on the user.
