TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a set of concepts about the nature of the organization, the individual, and the career, the set of events which tie the individual and the organization together.
Abstract: This paper presents a set of concepts about the nature of the organization, the nature of the individual, and the nature of the career-the set of events which tie the individual and the organization together. The purpose is to provide a frame of reference and a set of concepts to make it possible to think in more empirical terms about a variable like "career," yet which relate this variable both to organizational and psychological variables. Concepts such as "organizational boundaries," labile and stable "social selves," career stages and transitional processes are used to generate some hypotheses about organizational influences on the individual (socialization) and individual influences on the organization (innovation).

TL;DR: The ORION data model as mentioned in this paper consolidates and modifies a number of major concepts found in many object-oriented systems, such as objects, classes, class lattice, methods, and inheritance.
Abstract: Presented in this paper is the data model for ORION, a prototype database system that adds persistence and sharability to objects created and manipulated in object-oriented applications. The ORION data model consolidates and modifies a number of major concepts found in many object-oriented systems, such as objects, classes, class lattice, methods, and inheritance. These concepts are reviewed and three major enhancements to the conventional object-oriented data model, namely, schema evolution, composite objects, and versions, are elaborated upon. Schema evolution is the ability to dynamically make changes to the class definitions and the structure of the class lattice. Composite objects are recursive collections of exclusive components that are treated as units of storage, retrieval, and integrity enforcement. Versions are variations of the same object that are related by the history of their derivation. These enhancements are strongly motivated by the data management requirements of the ORION applications from the domains of artificial intelligence, computer-aided design and manufacturing, and office information systems with multimedia documents.

TL;DR: This paper formalizes a graphical conceptual model for data warehouses, called Dimensional Fact model, and proposes a semi-automated methodology to build it from the pre-existing schemes describing the enterprise relational database.
Abstract: Data warehousing systems enable enterprise managers to acquire and integrate information from heterogeneous sources and to query very large databases efficiently. Building a data warehouse requires adopting design and implementation techniques completely different from those underlying operational information systems. Though most scientific literature on the design of data warehouses concerns their logical and physical models, an accurate conceptual design is the necessary foundations for building a DW which is well-documented and fully satisfies requirements. In this paper we formalize a graphical conceptual model for data warehouses, called Dimensional Fact model, and propose a semi-automated methodology to build it from the pre-existing (conceptual or logical) schemes describing the enterprise relational database. The representation of reality built using our conceptual model consists of a set of fact schemes whose basic elements are facts, measures, attributes, dimensions and hierarchies; other featur...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors argue that the key defining characteristic of management research is its applied nature, and that its central concern should be the general (engineering) problem of design.
Abstract: This paper argues for the distinctiveness of management research and develops a perspective concerning management research policy. It argues that the key defining characteristic of management research is its applied nature, and that its central concern should be ‘the general (engineering) problem of design’. Because a key goal of management research is to improve the relationship between theory and practice, a fundamental concern lies with its diverse nature and the consequential difficulty of integration of sub-disciplines, as well as with the issue of the relevance and the application of findings. As a policy paper, it aims to introduce a limited number of analytical frameworks in order to develop a policy position, thus helping frame the debate concerning the role of management research. Specifically, it achieves this, first by exploring the ontology of management research, examining its form, features, peculiarities and idiosyncrasies using Becher's conceptual schema for exploring the nature of disciplines; second by identifying a requisite form of social organization to support management research activity using the Gibbons et al. taxonomy of knowledge production systems; and finally, by identifying some conclusions, research policy implications, and suggesting a set of policy propositions concerning the conduct of management research.

Abstract: Developers of hypermedia systems face many design issues. The design for KMS, a large-scale hypermedia system for collaborative work, seeks improved user productivity through simplicity of the conceptual data model.
