TL;DR: "Solvophobic" and "electrostatic" interactions are proposed to account for the preferential growth of CP along metal oxides to form core/shell heterostructures to pave the way for developing new functional materials with enhanced properties or new applications.
Abstract: High-quality metal oxide/conducting polymer (CP) heterostructured nanoarrays are fabricated by controllable electrochemical polymerization of CP shells on preformed metal oxides nanostructures for both electrochromic and electrochemical energy storage applications. Coaxial and branched CP shells can be obtained on different backbones (nanowire, nanorod, and nanoflake) simply by controlling the electrodeposition time. “Solvophobic” and “electrostatic” interactions are proposed to account for the preferential growth of CP along metal oxides to form core/shell heterostructures. The coaxial TiO2/polyaniline core/shell nanorod arrays exhibit remarkable electrochromic performance with rich color changes, fast optical modulation, and superior cycling stability. In addition, the Co3O4/polyaniline core/shell nanowire arrays are evaluated as an anode material of Li ion battery and exhibit enhanced electrochemical property with higher and more stable capacity than the bare Co3O4 nanowires electrode. These unique org...

27 Jun 2006TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provided electrically conducting polymer compositions comprising an electrically conductive polymer or copolymer and an organic solvent wettable fluorinated acid polymer, which can be used in organic electronic devices.
Abstract: There are provided electrically conducting polymer compositions comprising an electrically conductive polymer or copolymer and an organic solvent wettable fluorinated acid polymer. Electrically conductive polymer materials are derived from thiophene, pyrrole, aniline and polycyclic heteroaromatic precursor monomers. Non-conductive polymers derived from alkenyl, alkynyl, arylene, and heteroarylene precursor monomers. The organic-solvent wettable fluorinated acid polymer is fluorinated or highly fluorinated and may be colloid-forming. Acidic groups include carboxylic acid groups, sulfonic acid groups, sulfonimide groups, phosphoric acid groups, phosphonic acid groups, and combinations thereof. The compositions can be used in organic electronic devices.

TL;DR: Conducting electroactive polymers (CPs) are materials discovered just over 20 years ago which have aroused considerable interest on account of their electronic conducting properties and unique chemical and biochemical properties.
Abstract: Conducting electroactive polymers (CPs) are materials discovered just over 20 years ago which have aroused considerable interest on account of their electronic conducting properties and unique chemical and biochemical properties. Consequently, they have numerous (bio)analytical and technological applications. CPs are easily synthesized and deposited onto the conductive surface of a given substrate from monomer solutions by electrochemical polymerization with precise electrochemical control of their formation rate and thickness. Coating electrodes with CPs under mild conditions opens up enormous possibilities for the immobilization of biomolecules and bioaffinity or biorecognizing reagents, the improvement of their electrocatalytic properties, rapid electron transfer and direct communication to produce a range of analytical signals and new analytical applications. Co-immobilization of other molecules (enzymatic co-factors or charge-transfer mediators) by entrapment within electropolymerized films or by covalent binding on these films permits straightforward fabrication of reagentless biosensors. The characteristics of CPs and their uses, mainly in amperometric biosensors, are reviewed. The most recent applications and lines of research related to CP films are summarized in the different sections of the paper, and probable future trends are discussed.
