TL;DR: Using potential-time profiling to monitor the chemical oxidative polymerization of aniline using ammonium peroxydisulfate oxidant, all three oxidation states of polyaniline can be synthesized in one step and the evolution of polymer molecular weight monitored.
Abstract: The absolute molecular weight of polyaniline in the pernigraniline, emeraldine, and leucoemeraldine oxidation states has been measured by light scattering and the exact number of aniline repeat units determined for the first time. Using potential-time profiling to monitor the chemical oxidative polymerization of aniline using ammonium peroxydisulfate oxidant, all three oxidation states of polyaniline can be synthesized in one step and the evolution of polymer molecular weight monitored. The pernigraniline intermediate formed during the chemical oxidative polymerization of aniline increases by 17−20% when it is converted to emeraldine, which is consistent with a two-step polymerization mechanism. These findings establish a solid experimental framework to chemically synthesize block copolymers of polyaniline by using different monomers to intercept the reaction at the pernigraniline oxidation state.

TL;DR: The poly(3,4-dioxypyrrole) (PXDOP) family of conducting and electroactive polymers has now been developed to the point that multiple synthetic routes allow many functionalized polymers with controllable optoelectronic and redox properties.
Abstract: The poly(3,4-dioxypyrrole) (PXDOP) family of conducting and electroactive polymers has now been developed to the point that multiple synthetic routes allow many functionalized polymers with controllable optoelectronic and redox properties. These properties, which include high conductivity, multicolor cathodic and anodic electrochromism, and rapid redox switching, allow these materials to be used in a variety of applications that potentially include conducting coatings, electrochromic windows and displays, chemical sensors, bioactive materials, and mechanical actuators. Surprisingly, the scientific literature published on the PXDOP derivatives has been isolated and sparse compared to that of other conducting polymers. This report will highlight the synthesis and materials properties of PXDOPs and show how these powerful materials fit into the frontier of conducting polymers research.

TL;DR: In this article, the ability of Keggin-type phosphododecamolybdates (PMo12O403-) to undergo chemisorption and to form anionic monolayers on platinum surfaces is explored.
Abstract: The ability of Keggin-type phosphododecamolybdates (PMo12O403-) to undergo chemisorption and to form anionic monolayers on platinum surfaces is explored here to produce stable colloidal solutions of polyoxometalate-protected platinum nanoparticles (size, 5−10 nm, as determined by transmission electron microscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy). By dip-coating in the above solution, the particles can readily be assembled on carbon electrode substrates. The layer-by-layer method, which involves alternate exposures to the solutions of PMo12O403--stabilized Pt nanoparticles and anilinium cations, has been utilized to grow in a controlled manner hybrid network films in which the negatively charged layers of polyoxometalate-protected Pt nanoparticles are linked, or electrostatically attracted, by ultrathin positively charged polyaniline layers. The phosphomolybdate-decorated Pt nanoparticles (immobilized within ultrathin polyaniline film) are attractive for electrocatalysis: they show promising reactivity t...

TL;DR: In this paper, high piezoresistive conducting polyaniline-titanium oxide (PANI/TiO2) composites have been synthesized by ''in situ'' deposition technique by placing the fine grade powder (average particle size of approximately 100 nm) of anatase TiO2 in the polymerization reaction mixture of aniline.
